Title: Stearing wheel questions,,,
Post by: infl858 on June 11, 2009, 01:26:57 PM
Good morning all, I know its early in the game to be searching for parts,, but I figure I will have all I want before the wagon arrives.
My question is,, I am going to put the sport metal armed stearing wheel, I believe it was on the "stallion" optioned cars,, on my pinto. Many years ago I did this and of course they fit,, but on this occasion, I am wondering if maybe they made those wheels in colors? So as to match the interior color of light brown. I guess its easy enough to sew on another leather cover,,,but you would still see the black underneath it. Victor

I have only seen black rims on the sport steering wheels.  Now the centers and metal spokes can be either silver or painted black.  You may get by with color matching the center and keeping the rim black?

I had a wheel recovered years ago with a leather cover.  It came out ok.  In order to cover all the black you are going to have to come out a little ways on each of the spokes. This will add some complexity to it but it should be doable.

Good luck

I plan on leaving the spokes in the argent color,, but hope to change the outer rim color to tan,, so yes maybe the leather wheel cover is the best option. I was hoping that maybe that same wheel appeared in a upper level maverick grabber or mustang. As I dont feel comfortable in trying to stain the flexible rubber horn button to the tan color,,maybe the only option is leave the sucker black to match the instrument cluster. Which by the way I hope to find a tachometer option for as well.
