A 1974 pinto I'm considering purchasing has a cracked dash. What's the best place to get one?
Hoping to be a proud Pinto owner soon!
If you mean dash pad E-Bay or JC Whitney. If it is the metal dash best place would be me. Fred :)
Good luck on your search, hope this one works out for you!
99% of the original dash pads out there are cracked, and new ones are near non-existant, and very expensive IF you can find them.
You can find plastic caps on EBAY or at JC Whitney (they pop over the dash and cover the problem), or you can try and repair it.
The repair process is quite lengthy and involved, though it can be done (I restored my own dash cap, it was a lot of work).
Best wishes on your possible car buy!
Chris
Yes , I agree, In the time I have spent looking for dash pads,, all I discovered were cracked old ones,,, and new plastic covers,, I am thinking of covering it with heat applied vynl in its original color. Victor
Be careful about applying new vinyl; if you add any thickness at all to the pad (with foam) before you wrap in vinyl, be sure to NOT add it to the ends, or the pad becomes too wide to fit. I know, because I had one redone this way. Just an FYI, good luck!

Who was it on here that was thinking about doing our recovers, about a month ago??? I seen some pictures and they looked like new.
That was a picture of my restored cap, CB - it was tan in color.

Hey popbumper, what exactly did you use to repair your dash cap?i like friggin with that stuff.
Went to the a place called "Urethane supply company" and got some flexible bondo-type filler. I also used some of that "in a can" spray insulation foam to fill the deep cracks. Was a lot like bodywork. Then, I covered the whole thing in a textured finish (from auto paint supply store), and painted it with a special vinyl/plastic "dye". Lots of work.
