Title: Need rack work, but have questions...
Post by: dave1987 on June 06, 2009, 12:57:11 PM
I need to do some work on my manual steering rack and pinion. The inner tie-rods need replaced, as well as the tie rod ends. Easy enough to do....

Now, does a manual rack and pinion unit have seals at the ends? If so, where can I obtain new seals?

Does a manual steering rack require fluid? If so, where do I add fluid from?

To do the work I will be pulling the rack completely off the car, changing the bushings, cleaning the unit, changing the tie-rod ends, and changing the fluid if need be.

I know some of these may sound like stupid questions, but I'm totally new to the steering system of a car as far as the rack and pinion go.
