The pictures show a steering wheel itself and the center cap of a 77 pinto that is up at my buddy's lot. First time I have ever seen this wheel and horn cap. any Ideas????

So what is it????? :lost:
That is a Pinto Rallye Wheel. Came on Pinto's with Rallye packages such as that '77 (note the Rallye gauges/tach.) Very rare now a days and in high demand in the Pinto world. I have one on my '78 drag car. Also came in Mustang II's.

Here is a picture I took today and an older one showing the Rallye wheel. I'm suprised you have never ran across a picture of one. There is a first time for everything! :)

Also Cruisin Wagons. :afro:
Didn't it also come on the Stallion editions of the Pinto, Mustang II and Maverick?
Indeed it did. Forgot about the Maverick.

Since I have just got back into Pinto a while back, my first thought was Ferrari. Now I know it's for the stallion, learn something new everyday here.
uh... remember... the Ferrari had a whole horse rearing... ::)
I'm sorry, do I have to stand in the corner now???
My '79 Bronco has the same steering wheel (different horn button of course). It was the optional "sport" wheel.
Early Fox-bodied Mustangs (or at least some) had the same wheel, but all black (I have one). If I remember correctly, it had a different but similar horn button.
Mike
My '82 Capri had the same steering wheel. Thanks to my junkyarding I had the Stallion hornbutton to put on the wheel.
I pulled mine from a 76 Mustang II at a salvage yard. Not sure if all the Pintos had the horn button black, but I like the silver against the black, it suites my interior well. :)
My '82's wheel was black, but otherwise the same.

Keep in mind, the Fox body wheels have no horn provisions as their horn is turned on by the turn signal switch arm. The wheel is also missing the provisions for the wheel lock so it can be turned without the key. Also a notch will need to be ground in to make the turn signal cancel properly.
Good stuff to know. That would explain the rallye wheels on the car. I wish I had the money to buy this car for the parts I would like off it. Bodies good but the floors have some bad spots as in holes.... :surprised:

Hey CB, no worries - one man's Pinto is another man's Ferrari - at least that's what I keep trying to convince my wife of. ;)
Chris
I'm with you on that Chris! I've always thought of my Pinto as my little sports car! :D

Well, now. Looking at the wheel, you're absolutely correct. Thanks for saving me from the attempt to make it work in a Pinto. Guess it'll have to go back on the wall.

HellFire- those are "out" now a days. You cant hardly give em away. Just for a favor (only for you) i would take it off your hands for you. If youll throw in the gauge cluster too.....:) K
How kind of you to offer..... :rolleye: Actually there are so many parts on the car i want but i simply don't have the money for it. The car went into the shop today for the trans swap and that is taking every penny. :(
:angel:lol. oh well, thought i would try. i found that since the replacement parts, ie body panels, grills and other add on's (traction bars) are hard to find, i decided to make them. I made a custom grill out of tubing that looks pretty nice, some body panels for some rust spots i removed, and some shorter traction bars to slip on the axle. Just to kinda give it the ole school rod look....Thinkin about doin a hood scoop for it....:)
That is the beauty of this little car is that we can personalize them to fit what we want and they still stay cool. I like old school, as a matter of fact mine is being modeled after the 70s style Pro Stock except with a boosted 4 cyl instead of a V8. But I have seen resortations that I liked too. I guess the botom line is build it the way it makes you happy and enjoy it.

OK, question. my 72 Pinto has a wheel like that. Was it added at a later date? It is the coolest steering wheel Ive seen on any Ford. I have seen them on Stangs at the junk yard but I really want one for my Grabber Maverick. I know they had a Maverick specific one with the Maverick emblem in the horn button. Oh and do any exist without cracked plastic :)
