Hey guys
Now I don't have a Pinto with the flipper windows, and would like to install them on my car. The only problem is the same one almost everyone runs into. The plastic hinge clips break. If there is something that could be remade would be those clips. If they were remade then I could get those windows for my car.
Just a thought.
How hard would those be to dupe in resin? Are there so more flexible (as opposed to normally brittle) resins out there?
That's a good question. A couple years ago I was gonna install the flipper windows in my car since it gets so hot in there, but everyone advised against it since the clips are near impossible to come by & break when you try to remove them from a different car.
I posted this in another thread... I was able to salvage a couple of those pop-out hinge inserts from a '73 wagon to put in my '74 Runabout. The wagon's clips were far from brand-new, but the inserts were still flexible enough to not crumble like the '74's had. Strangely, my own '73's inserts are broken and/or missing. The wagon's inserts had to be modified with the help of a Dremel mototool for the metal hinges to fit the inserts. Anyway, just my 2 cent's worth... good luck.
Interesting.. I might have to keep an eye out on eBay or when I go to PA this week see if the wagon at a junkyard out there will have a set. Then I can install the windows I want on the car. Those are so nice to have in there.
Just be careful getting the inserts out. The '73 wagon's owner tried to help me get one out and stabbed himself in the hand with his screwdriver in the process. They like their niches.
I believe Dennis Carpenter has reproduced the wagon inserts. Last time I checked partsvoice, he had a ton of them which leads me to believe he has reproduced them. I am not sure if he has reproduced the pin though as that part aparently does not come with the insert. None of my collision guides list the pin part number. Unfortunately the sedan / do not come up often NOS.
BTW, my current parts car had the popout windows which I sold to Bill. I cut the pilar post from the inside to expose the back of the inserts. I ended up saving 2 or 3 of them by releasing them from the back side. Now this would probably not be much help in the wrecking yard but it may help some of you parting out cars at home.
Tigger, I can't find them in the D.C. catalogs, who is partsvoice and how do we get in touch with them?
The wagon insert p/n is D5FZ-73302A12A. The HB / Sedan insert p/n is D2FZ-62302A12A. Partsvoice is a database that you can search for parts for any manufacturer. You type in the part number and they will tell you who has it available and give you the contact info.

They are NOT listed as a Pinto item. The are listed for the 73 - 79 Ford truck with the super cab (I believe) This info was told to me by Pintony.
