Title: A thanks and a update.
Post by: beegle55 on May 30, 2009, 06:43:01 PM
I would like to extend a thank you and a big round of applause to James (71pintoracer) for sending me a marker light for my '79. Thanks again.

I would also like to give an update as I have been really busy in the past weeks but can now sigh a great and joyous breath of releif... I have started a new full-time job making decent money at a local used car lot, and I graduated Friday. The dust is settling and all the craziness is subsiding.

As for graduation... it went very smoothly and its good to put it behind me and look ahead to tomorrow... but the best part was the gift. My dad purchased the 1978 back and signed the title into my name. The BEST graduation gift and 18 year old can ever ask for.

So, I have a large bank account and a steady job so I will be finishing up the resto on the '79 soon (weatherstripping and it's 99.9% done.) I am also starting to freshen up the drag car and hopefully can put it on the street before the summer is over. I'm going to install a bigger fuel cell, new carpet, AM radio for looks, hook the speedo back up, and get a gauge pod. Street legalize it by fixing the headlight switch and getting a hood, exhaust, and seatbelts. Wish me luck! I'm so glad to have the car it's so exciting! Sorry So Long.  ;D

Thanks guys. I am still weighing a few options with the '78. My main goal would be to put it on the street. It would need legal hood, tires, wheels, exhaust, tame torque converter (4500 stall wouldn't work good on street.) And that would be a start. It would pass inspection I just don't know how prying our insurance is. So I might just swap for a more mild 302 setup. But for now, starting it up and hearing it knowing it is mine is enough... And 71pintoracer, we might have to meet up at a track sometime and line em' up.  :2fast4u:  :P

Well I only have two days a week off... and I still am obligated to two hours of work Sat and Sun, but tomorrow I plan to give the '78 a good wash job. I will upload new pics of it in general and the swap pics. Thanks for the patience I have just had so much going on but things are finally settling down... at least for a few months until West Virginia University in the fall.

Well as you hit your nitrous (looks to be a ZEX system?) you can be taking note to what my right rear says...

And for CB and anyone else interested in my V8 swap... pictures from the engine bay where all the magic happens...
The mount. The tape measure caused a glare in another pic but it measured 8" long and about 3 1/2 from the engine to the fender bracket.

The room left over from the Mustang II bell housing. Close but not too close.

Radiator and water pump... soon to be upgraded... hope it fits

And finally the engine just being pretty...

I would never do that to my Pinto, but that looks really sharp. I don't have the time or need to convert mine to V8.

Normally I don't like the square look of the 79-80 Pintos but yours looks great.

Thanks! I really never liked the late Pinto's either until I bought the '79 and now it has grown on me. I have yet to see a Pinto I haven't liked though

Oh and the '78 will look even better once I get some work done to it. It is showing 10 years of racing wear and a few years of sitting. It needs a new driver seat cover, the engine block and headers could use to be painted, engine bay needs cleaned up and painted, and I need carpet on the inside and clean it up a bit. But I can't complain I love the car as it is but am striving to make it show worthy yet again.

I read before you are gonna make it streetable. Does the speedo still work on it or are you gonna have to get that taken care of?
Title: Re: A thanks and a update.
Post by: beegle55 on May 31, 2009, 09:34:59 PM
Great question. I hope I can hook it up and it will still work but I haven't pulled it yet. I have to not only to hook it back up but install a new headlight switch. So we will see. I really hope it does because the car only has 1800 original miles so I would hate to have to replace the speedo.

Wow.. at only 1800 miles hopefully the cluster doesn't crumble like the others seem to. That is a horrible mess to clean up. Mine shattered into powder in '06 & I'm still cleaning it up. That aughtta get some looks on the road though. She's definitely a looker.

I'm hoping for the best. Mine in the '79 is still strong and looks new. The '78 has led a way easier life and has 150,000 less miles so hopefully and theoretically it should be in one piece... but I'm pretty sure its an unpredictable trajedy unfortunately.

I will separate it... s u c k s = zoops. Apparently zoop is a bad word lol

Well I'm buying a stock-ish 302 carburated to put in it for now until I get everything sorted out and get it on the street ASAP. So it would be a very close race now, if only you could hook up. But you are spraying. So it would be ultra-close.  :o lol. All is good.
