I've been researching/collecting literature on doing a 351W swap into a Pinto. What I've seen thus far in some of the older manuals is the use of plates bolted to the heads, then to the frame as mounts instead of using proper motor mounts.
Anyone have thoughts on this? Pros, cons? The plates seem easy, and would leave room underneath for headers, oil filter, etc.
Thanks!

Hi, I used mustang II mounts for all, including the trans.I drilled and put a bolt through them to play it safe . Used 66 mustang cast exhaust manifolds .It fit just right.
i also used motor mounts for mine, but if you want to use the plate system, do it. There will be more vibration in the chassis from the engine being solidly mounted, so make sure you keep checking on critical nuts and bolts for tightness, as they do seem to work themselves loose!
Excellent. The only real advantage I can see is that plates would leave header room to tuck pipes underneath, with no mounts in the way. But I plan on using that slick "turned around shorty headers" trick, so mounts seem the way to go...
Thanks
