I went yesterday and bought a 74 Pinto wagon drag car. It has a de-stroked 302 c-4 trans with a 9 inch rear end with 4:11 gears. The car has a 2500 stall convertor and he was having problems rolling through the lights, I was thinking of a higher stall convertor, any thoughts on which way I should go. Planning on bracket racing next year, we only have a couple weeks left to this season.
Are you running a transbrake? I've never raced with one. My car's a stick and dad's is a foot brake. I think that would keep you still unless you deep stage too far, then you may creep forward just enough to brake the beams when you set it.
Another option would be a 2 or 4 wheel line lock. I don't know what class you race in, but some don't allow transbrakes (13.00 and slower I think) and while most classes permit a 2 wheel line lock, some prohibit 4 wheel.
I am going to be running in a footbrake class, the car has a linelock already, I was thinking a higher stall would help, the person I bought it from said it would roll on him. This is my first attempt at drag racing, I have been going to watch my brother in law and got hooked. I wasn't sure if I cold use the linelock to help hold the car when staging. Is this something anybody does? I have alot to learn, any info or advice is appreciated.
I use a 3400 stall, 11" converter and it works great as a street/strip converter.
You could use a rev limiter on the line as well.
I think a rev limiter would put me in the electronics class. I am going to get the cam specs and call a convertor company. Anyone using a c-4 did you change the input shaft? Just curious how tough a stock input shaft is. Thanks for the help.
i'm putting about 400 horsepower to mine and its holding up fine.....so far! I'll let you know in about a week how it holds up with 500 hp, Nitrous is going on it this week.
I did not change the imput shaft on my C4 and I lay down 340Hp+a 75 shot of NOS. ;D
