Title: easy question
Post by: jreb333 on May 20, 2009, 11:59:17 PM
i kinda feel dumb asking this having been a major pinto freak (ive owned 8 ponys and a bobcat) back in the day, so much so that i was known all over a fairly large town as "the pinto guy" but thats been quite a few years ago and my wife made me stop bringing them home and get rid of the ones i had so heres my dumb question as my memory has long since moved on....

how can i tell the difference between a 2.0 and a 2.3 externally? id rather not have to dissemble this engine and mic cylinders but if i have to what are the spec differences between the two?
i was given a "rebuildable pinto engine" by a friend and i need to know what size i have to start planning my build for my sand rail.

thanks for the help!

Oil filter is in the front on a 2.0 and in the rear on a 2.3

Hi,

Sorry you had to let go of your "babies". TGIS- Thank goodness I'm single! lol.
Anyway, one way to tell them apart is the 2.0 oil filler cap is in front of the engine, while the 2.3s is in the rear. If you still have the engine sticker that helps too. I think the air cleaner housing is different too- at least on mine. I've got a '73 with a 2.0 and a '74 with a 2.3. Hope this helps.
