Title: that trip that was!
Post by: dholvrsn on May 20, 2009, 03:22:58 PM
Wee Beastie,my turbo Pinto with portholes made it all the way from Soldier to Omaha on the second try!  ;D :afro: :fastcar:

The stuck VAM from last time was a mixed curse. It also made me find a leaky BCS and fuel rail regulator, a coolant leak, blistered radiator hoses, and a bare wire rubbing on the alternator.

With all that fixed the Pinto ran well all the way down despite a 30mph headwind. The fuel gauge barely moved, the water temperature stayed between 180° and 190° despite having slightly under 200 miles on an overhaul, and the vacuum/boost gauge stayed barely below 0 at 70mph.

To celebrate, I took a nap, band sawed a Mustang II console down to fit, had a burger at Runza, and swept out a Pinto place in my garage.

Congrats on your successful voyage! Yes mixed blessings can save heartbreak down the road. As for fuel gauges barely moving, my little '73 wagon (4-speed) is not only a gauge-barely-moves car, but now that I'm "getting" the stick-shift scheme, she's downright fun to drive!  :tgif:  (Thank goodness it's fun!)
