so i have a 74 2.3 and i put a new carb on it and it ran great then i went to drive it again and you have to hold your foot on the gas for like 10 mins before it will stay running(if you let off it will stall.) then as soon as it cools down the same thing and i was wondering if its a easy adjustment or what it may be thanks
Does it have an electric Choke or the Radiator fed one? Either could be stuck till warm up or something else is sticking closed.
Sounds like the choke is out of adjustment. Are you activating the choke by pushing on the gas pedal before you try to start it?
im gonna go out on a limb and say the radiator one cuz a radiator hose goes to the side of it...im not real big on carbs
You may want to see if you can Adjust that Choke, It if has Screws you can just loosen them a little till the Choke plate moves with a little force and reposition the Choke to the two Hoses facing a little to the front of the Vehicle I think.. don't quote me on that. Play with it till the car evens out and is able to Run on its own. If that doesn't work there are many other things we can try to get that working correctly, I hope this helps even in the slightest. If its the one that has the rivets you might have to go to the parts store and get a New one and drill out the rivets and use Screws like i did with my buddies 71 hatch.
