...well, that's what I am gonna call it right now....probably is not spelled right, either.....
This is the piece under the dash that the pedals mount to. I pulled this piece out of an Automatic since the dash was out and I had easy access.
QUESTION: Are these pieces DIFFERENT between an automatic and standard transmission car? (yes, I realize there is an extra pedal in the latter, but I am curious if the structure of the hangar is different since one has a brake pedal only, and the other has a brake and clutch pedal).
Thanks!
Chris
I haven't seen them side by side to compare, but I just swapped in an automatic pedal in place of the original brake and clutch pedal. Direct fit. I can't see what functional difference there would be.
The channel is the same 2 and 1/2" across inside diameter. Latter models are 3 and 1/8" wide. Fred :)
My bracket (standard tranny) is out of a '76; I pulled the other auto tranny bracket from a '78 hatch. Was hoping to restore the latter one, so when I pull my dash, I can just pop in the fresh one. Hopefully that will be the case.

The top 1 is 74 the lower is 78. They mount completely different. Fred :)
I have heard there are four different pedal set ups for the Pinto. There are the early cars (71-73 I believe), there are the 74 and up cars. I was told that the booster cars had different pedals. Where does the fourth type come in...? I don't know, but I'm sure someone here does.
Hey Fred, was that the pedals (in the picture) I swapped with you at Knott's '08 ?
Tom
Tom yep the lower picture. Did you get the engine head finished. Fred :)
I'm not referring to the pedals you show in the pics, I am referring to the large "metal bracket structure" that the pedlas hang on.

My current wagon WAS an Auto, I then swapped it to the 5 spd. When I had the Dash out (on both rides) all I did was replace the Pedal assembly with leaving the Meatal Barckets in place. So the Backet off of the firewall is the same they just have nylon spacer in between the pedals and the bracket.

Sounds great, thanks!
