Title: brake upgrade problems
Post by: BADPNTO on May 11, 2009, 04:05:40 PM
i own a 1980 pinto with an svo motor in it.--the rear end is out of a 66 mustang that had drum brakes.--about 2 years ago i bought the SSBC upgrade from jeg's to convert rear drum brakes to four-wheel disc with hopes of that being able to stop my car. --to this day i can't seem to get them to work right, but i had also purchased a brake pressure gauge kit from SSBC also.--the pamphlet that comes with it states that rear pressure must now be increased to somewhere between 1100 and 1400 psi to adequately stop the vehicle.--i only checked the rears and they only registered 600 psi !!!--not even enough to stop drum brakes.--i have checked my power brake booster--it is ok.--i also have almost 2 inches of play in the pedal even before it starts slightly grabbing.--maybe that can be adjusted with the pushrod.--everyone tells me that i need to upgrade to a bigger master cylinder, but no one can tell me which one will work--PLZ  !!!!!--I NEED HELP WITH THIS--I'M SURE SOMEONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS--THX !!!

BadPnto,
Does your car still have the brake proportioning valve under the Master cylinder on the frame? If so the valve may need to be recentered or replaced, as it is the pressure regulator for the front to rear line pressures.
