Title: Fresh Paint.
Post by: beegle55 on May 11, 2009, 11:42:59 AM
Well, my attention to detail has led to a rather expensive venture stemming from the quarter panel damage. I had the car from the front windsheild back painted. The rear quarter looks 100%. It was really great work. I had the front of the car wet sanded and buffed. The paint blends beautifully and it looks 3 times better than it did when I purchased it. Now if I can remember to roll out the caution tape to keep the idiots away from this orange magnet. I will post pictures when I get home this evening, so stay tuned. Anyone have a 79-80 rear bumper with good rubber they want to get rid of? How about a right rear marker light, assembly, lense, and trim piece (79-80 of course) These are the last pieces I need other than weatherstripping to complete the exterior resto. Thanks!

The paint on the Pinto was right with the quality of the paint on the new Camaro. That's how impressed and satisfied the job has proved to be.  ;D

Hey, I have a couple complete rear marker light assemblies, but they are from a 77 Bobcat Wagon, and I don't know if they are the same. If you're interested drop me a PM and let me know.

The car looks fantastic! So nice to see it was done properly, and looks like new! ;D

;D I'm proud. Over the summer with funding from a job, I might seek to sneak a 302 into this one and keep it very secretive, stock 13's, keep it mostly uncut. We did this in the race car by taking off the radiator support and sliding the engine and trans into the car with motor mounts attached. Bolt it up and your good to go without having to chop the car  :2fast4u: sneaky eh? I'm excited  8)

If you bolt up your 302 and your trans, along with the motor mounts pre-attached to the engine, you can pull the front radiator support and grill, with everything else removed from the engine bay, and slowly level the engine down to the height of the engine bay and slowly roll the setup back into place without having to do much cutting on the firewall. Angle it right and headers slip right in. Lower the engine hoist and bolt up motor mounts to the frame. Bolt up fuel lines etc and put front end back together and ta-da. My dad did it when he pulled and rebuilt the 302 in the race car and said it was easy. He says Mustang II engine mounts. I'll start up a thread with detailed info and pictures of the race car to see what might have to be prepped for the engine entry and ask my dad to fully explain and I'll post, I know you and many others would appreciate it.  ;D

I have to agree with you. The 2010 Camaro and 2010 Mustang are my two favorites of the new muscle breed (they look strikingly similar, I think Ford knew the Camaro would be well received.) My dad works at that dealership and is the head tech and PDI'ed the SS Camaro that is in their showroom and he said it is awesome. He says, however, he wouldn't put it past our drag car to out run it, but for a road built car its impressive.

That is one of the only turn offs to me is that these new muscle cars weight so much because of all the fiberglass. I'm a Pinto lover so of course I don't like much weight... the old 3800 pound Chargers were acceptable because the competition weighted about the same and you didn't have foreign markets to compete with... And a big HP 440 didn't hurt either. But to stay competitive, weight should have been more of a consideration on these tanks, and I knew it would be a problem when the new Charger was released at 4000 pounds. Just my 2 cents...
