Title: Power steering with serpentine belt on a stock 2.3
Post by: Pangra74 on May 09, 2009, 08:28:30 PM
I just added a '90 Mustang/T-Bird style power steering/serpentine belt system to my 74 2.3. The crank pulley bolts right on. I had to enlarge the Mustang water pump pulley center hole to 3/4" (too lazy to go get a Mustang 2.3 pump). The combo power steering pump/alternator bracket needed to have a chunk cut out of the lower rear section to clear the stock fuel pump, and the alternator is snug right up to the stock air cleaner, but it all fits and has hood clearance too. I'll post pics if anyone is interested.

Here is the piece I had to take out of the PS pump bracket.

One other thing. I had to file timing mark notches in the new Mustang crank pulley as it has none. The other option is to hang on to the old stock pulley and slip it on for cam timing.
