I have a 2.3L 1974 bobcat sitting in the yard ive been trying to get going. It used to run very well but now i cant get it to go. i can make it run for about 10 seconds if i pour gas right into the carburater. I checked the filter on the carb and it seems clean but its dry as a bone. The fuel line is rusty but i dont see any big leaks. There are 3 hoses coming out of the fuel pump, 1 goes up to the carb and 2 go toward the back of the car. i tried hooking a rubber hose leading to a jar of gas in each of the 2 other hoses but they only blow air out when the primed car starts coughing. Is my fuel pump bad? is there any way to test it? Could the fuel problem be anything else but the pump? ???
Disconect the hose that goes to the carb. have someome else try and start the car, if the pump is bad no gas will shoot out, or you might have a small crack in the hose coming to the pump. Air is easier to pump than liquid.
You might be out of gas, I've done that before and could'nt figure what was wrong, silly me ??? ;D
Hi , I bought a 74 Mustang II about 10 years ago with a bad pump .I made a bet with the owner that I could make it run and drive it out of where it was stored for 7 years I could buy it for $100.00.I threw a battery in her and duct taped a gallon gas can to the roof because I was not getting fuel .Primed it and drove it to the trailer. ;D I removed the drive train for another Mustang (81) I had built for my daughter for her 16th birthday birthday ,then sold the body for $75. 8) ;D
Hmm nope nothin comin up from the line that leads to the carb. Ill screw around a little more and see what i can do. PRobably its just the old fuel pump or the lines are rusted out somewhere
Hi, take the feed line off the pump and blow compressed air back to the tank with the gas cap off .Might be plugged with crud .
You can pull off the rubber line from the hard line in the left wheel well and check it as well. Mine was dry there as well. Are you on level ground? Check my post in general help labeled fuel delivery. Oh wait this IS IN general help.
