Title: Difference between 71/72/73 Wagon front Suspension, and 74 up
Post by: spitfire on May 04, 2009, 08:52:10 PM
This seems like a Dumb Question, but all the Aftermarket Suspension Parts, are alway listed for 74 and up, so what is the difference between the 74 and Up, and my 72 Wagon Front Suspension?

I'd like to put Poly Bushings, Gas Shocks, Sway bar, Etc., but nothing is listed for my car, and finding Rear suspension stuff is even worse, so will the 74 and up Parts work with my car?, or do I have to do some kind of Modification to adapt the newer configuration?

In a word...nope.

Front Poly Bushings: Stock Bushings only (I bought the last NEAR Poly front set of bushings sold from Racer Walsh a year ago-discontinued >:()

Front Gas Shocks: Should be available.

Front Sway bar:
Available from Addco or Racer Walsh up to about 7/8-15/16. I have a one-off 71-72 spec 1.125 (1 1/8) HOLLOW bar coming this Friday (UPS Tracking-stay tuned ;D) that I will be Beta testing for Addco against their largest stock 71-72 Pinto bar. 73 is a hybrid and is NOT usable.

The Rear: I'm adapting LONGER Koni shocks and an anti-sway bar from a 1977 Ranchero. I had to turn down my own Poly bushings from a 65 Mustang and added a secondary leaf spring from my 1969 Mustang. Custom ANYTHING is available for enough $$$ :fastcar:

I received the 71-72 Pinto 1 1/8 Hollow front anti-sway bar from ADDCO yesterday.;D  I worked with their R & D dept (Dan and John). :drunk:  I will be testing this for them to see if it is an improvement and worth producing over the 71-72 7/8" solid bar currently in production (the largest now available-also pictured). This 1 1/8" hollow bar is intended for full race applications. IF  it works, they will produce this and migrate the technology on to the 74 and up Pinto crowd (I included a silver colored 74 up 15/16" bar for size reference)  :fastcar:

Stamped Hollow End. Technology borrowed from the early 2000s Mustang Cobras that came with 1 1/8" Hollow Bars. I put one on my Cobra Clone and was stunned by the difference over my stock GT bar and without a harsh ride, hence the idea to upgrade my road race Pinto project. ADDCO got interested with the idea and the performance potential (read: potential sales ;D)

The 71-72 bars fit backwards compared to the 74 up bar shown here.
