Hello
I am new to this board and new to Pintos (sort of). I have a 77 Cruisin Wagon that I am wanting to restore to a daily driver with a Turbo Coupe engine and 5 speed. I have found most of the info that I need to get started but I would like some info about rearend choices. I ouwld like to install a 7.5 limited slip from the Turbo Coupe but it is too wide. Is it possible to use the axles and the tubes from the narrow 6.75 on the 7.5 housing? Or is there a much easier rearend choice.
Thanks for the info. I have done a search here and other places and could not find what I need. Thanks in advance for the help.

The much easier choice is to swap in an 8" from a Pinto (that has one - mostly V-6's) or a Mustang II. It is a direct bolt in with the correct width, brake attachments etc.
I got my 8" (drum to drum) from Pick A Part in So. Cal. It was $116 out the door including tax, surcharges and core. And, that was the regular price, not the 50% off I usually get at their sales.
The (usable) available ratios are 3.00, 3.40 and 3.55. Consider your tire size and use. Ideally I think 3.25 would be a great general ratio. On my fortunate day I had a choice of a 3.00 or a 3.55. I opted for the 3.00 - but still wish I had a 3.25.
I went with the 3.00 given the T/C's very low first gear in the T-5 and the fact that the Pinto weights about 1,000 pounds less than the T/C. And..., oh yea, gas was about $4.50 at the time.
Hope that helps.

im planing on using a 8.8 out of a explore (ranger is amost the same) some rangers have 7.5 u could use the ranger 7.5 but u hafta weld new sadles (spring perch)
I just pulled a 3:40 8" rear out of a salvage yard Pinto with a V6/auto hookup. This is to replace the 6.75" stock unit currently under my wagon.

I am using a 7.5 from a 83 Bird.It is not modified.I am using 15 inch Fox body mustang wheels. They fit inside the wheel wells.
How much wider is the T-Bird rear than the Pinto? I have two T-Bird rears (from a turbo coupe) that I could use but I want the width to be correct (or at least not too far off). As far as welding new perches is concerned that is no problem.
