Title: Blinker problems
Post by: 78squirewagon on April 28, 2009, 02:06:01 PM
Ok, here's the deal. On my white wagon (the one I am trying to get back on the road) I cannot get my blinkers to work on either side. The 4 ways work ok but neither side on the turn signals. I replaced the blinker thing under the dash (next to the fuses) but that did not fix it Any ideas?

From the 1977 EVTM:  "If the Turn Signal Lights fail to come on when the turn signal lever is operated to the left and right positions, check the operation of the Emergency Warning Flasher by pulling out the "HAZARD" button.  If the "emergency" flasher operates, see if Fuze 2 is blown by checking the operation of the Backup Lights, which are also powered by Fuze 2.  Trace the wiring from Fuze 2 to the flasher and from the flasher to the Turn Signal Switch, and if ok, replace the Turn Signal Flasher.  With the turn signal lever in the left or right position, unplug Connector C406* and check for continuity through the Turn Signal Switch as described below.  For the left turn position, the light blue, light green/orange, and light green/white wires should be connected together.  For right turn, the light blue, white/light blue and orange/light blue wires should be connected together.  If not, replace the Turn Signal Switch."

*Connector C406 . . . . near LH tail light.

Hope this helps.

I will look for that on Friday or Saturday if it stops raining LOL!!!  Plus I will check the other stuff people have suggested. Right now the blinkers are the least of my worries  ;D  We replaced the rear brake line (across the diff) only to have the one running from the front to the back blow out. Time to get all new ones I guess ;D

Mark,

I Just looked at my 1978 Pinto electrical manual and yes, it does have two flashers. The turn signal flasher comes off fuse two and has two wires to it. One is white with purple tracer the other is light blue.

12. depending on what kind it can be an EL 12 for an electronic flasher or an LF12 for a standard flasher
