Well finally got the daughters Mustang II together with a late f/i 2.3 motor but with a 350 Holley. Car runs good but noticed after a good drive the motor will get a bit hot til the 180 thermo opens up, fan will kick in there after but takes a while, it's a 16" puller...Where did you all install your fan sensor, mine is in the lower fuel injection intake which I now believe is the wrong spot cause theres no flow there, I'm thinking closer to the radiator? Any ideas
Temp probe install near outlet top hose in radiator fins. Fred :)
Fred the sender I got with the fan is a 1/4 NPT unit, you have a part # for the probe unit?
Youres is a water temp pickup, mine is air temp with adjustable rheostat. I will check and see if I can find pt. #. Fred :)
The temp should really not go too high before the t-stat opens. I have seen that occure with the "standard" t-stats too often. I had a bad one that would hit 220* and then pop open and cooling began. It was replaced with a Mr Gasket high-flow t-stat which does MUCH better at controlling and regulating temperature. I never have overheating problems since and it is always below 200, even in the hottest summers at idle. Typically, it is running right at 180 at 85* ambient temp.
I have the stock 2.3L with a small cheezy import plastic belt-driven fan and no shroud (non-AC car).
I use those Mr Gasket t-stats in every vehicle except the Caddy. I endorse them almost...
This can control 2 fans and A/C comp and is adjustable from Parts Master #3647. I can get for $32.06. Fred :)
Upon recent investigation of my own there is a sensor for the water temp and the air intake temp in that area. The air temp point, if that is the location, would be considerably cooler.
You might want to make sure that your gauge sender matches the gauge. My Turbo Pinto has a 20" radiator and the gauge drops to near cold when in normal use. I checked the thermostat and it was good. Finally I got my son's R/C car infared temp gauge and scanned various parts of the engine. They all read correct. I'm not sure why my gauge reads as it does (the fan goes on at the normal hot point) but the temp gauge my son has gave me piece of mind.
