yes no distributor it has a porsche hi output coil pack distributless ignition, and yes it has something like that on crank, although kind of different,i will try to take a pic if i can figure out how to post it,thanks for the help.
I assume with your described ignition you are asking how to keep the cam in time with the crank when changing the belt.
I use paint (spray it in a can and apply with a Q-tip)don't use a marker. I put a paint mark on the belt and the cam pulley tooth that corresponds. I do the same at the crank end. I remove the belt. I match the old belt up to the new one and mark it the same. I then install the belt so the marks on the new belt align with the pulley marks.
I do this on any car I change the belt on. Especially on the 2.3 there is an indicator on the rear plastic belt cover. A lot of times that is broke off. Other times people just pull the cover and have left it off.
Comprehending marks listed in manuals can be difficult. Some times a tooth either way seems wrong and the perceived tooth doesn't seem right either. You can go nuts.
As long as you know the belt was originally correct I would use the "paint" method every time. You always have the old belt as a correct original reference.
