Need to pick your brains. I have seen a few threads on headliners. I soon will be needing to install my new headliner in my 71 trunk model. Hadnt thought about having to take out the front and back winders.
Was wondering has anyone else done this and what is the best way?
If i take it to a glass place to remove the widows will they be able to get new seals or do i have to find them. I know one of you guys must have allready gone thru this any help would be appreciated .

That makes 3 of us! I need it for 71 and 72 sedan Pintos!
I think it is funny that they make them for the hatches, but not the sedan!! I have a theory of why though!! I'm thinking that the hatch one probably doesn't have the chrome trim in it so it is easier to make, less expensive. Do to having the chrome trim and having to cut the slit for it, makes that weatherstrip more costly to make, and not enough people are buying them!! Just a theory though!! ???
I am four! I just haven't pulled the window yet.
Here's five! LMAO
That's it, I'm going to go look at my back window....
EDIT: Well, the headliner is secured along the "ceiling" between the gasket and the roof for both the rear window and the quarter windows. If you have a pliable gasket, you could probably get away with tucking it in yourself. Mine are pretty sock on the inside, and don't tear, I think I could get away with just tucking a new headliner between.
If it weren't for the fact that my rear deck is all nasty at the window & the window has all kinds of overspray on it I would prolly not worry about it, but since I do, I gotta pull the rear window anyways. Lets just say that I am waiting until I get everything I need before I attempt to replace the headliner.
From the experience I had in my 67 Mustang (coupe)the best way to install the headliner is to remove the windows. The first headliner I had installed was glued in around the windows. I chose not to pull the windows as I just had them resealed with new gaskets a few months before. It looked pretty good at first. After a few summers of driving with the windows down the headliner started to become unglued around the rear window on hot summer days. The glue would soften and the pressure from the wind comming in would pull the vinyl away. I would reglue in the fall but the next hot day would soften it again. I ended up replacing it about 3 years later when I had to change the cracked windshield. I pulled the rear window at that time and pulled the headliner over the lip. I have not had a problem with it coming loose since.
I understand the rear window gasket is a concern. I am not sure what I would do in your guys shoes. I just wanted to make you guys aware that gluing it in has some drawbacks in my opinion.
