Title: v8 C4 to 6.75 rear conversion u-joint
Post by: Saito on March 29, 2009, 04:15:15 PM
I'm was on the home stretch of installing a 302/C4 combo in my '80 Pinto when I hit a snag. The C4 slip yoke uses a larger (read longer) u-joint than the recieving end of my 6.75 rear. Is there a conversion u-joint available thats short at one span (cap to cap) and long on the other span? I have to keep my 6.75 rear for now as funds don't allow for a new rear yet. Any ideas on mating the two up? Thanks.

My friend who does a lot of turbo stuff just went to Autozone a couple weeks ago and picked up an adapter U-Joint for about $23. He is using a C4 and 8" rear as well, with the stock drive shaft. That's on a 2.3 turbo though.

If you are going to be using your 6.75" rear on a 302, don't plan for it to last long. It can't hold up to that much torque or horsepower and you will ended up detonating it shortly after you get the car on the road to enjoy it.

Agreed. I have personally never seen an adapter to that small and well, under a V8 setup, that frail of a rear end. And if they make one and you go that route, don't expect much out of it in the end. I like the enthusiasm of wanting to get the car on the road ASAP but I would make a new rear end one of the next top priorities... just my 2 cents.
