I have a 1980 pinto its in good shape but has front end damage from a deer(no grill and dent in front right fender) and doesn't run because a piston rod broke. I'm not good with cars at all so I'm just wondering what people think its worth.
Got picture ???
thats the only pic i have sorry thats before the dent
Well, there is an official opinion (NADA, yes they still list this car) and an unofficial opinion with Pintos. The official position with the NADA varies slightly zip by zip (you can get a quote if you visit their site-google 'nada' This is the National Auto Dealers Association, they 'set' prices of used cars for dealerships. In my area (central New Mexico) The values for March 2009:
Daily Driver-showing wear but mosty useable as-is: $638
Average condition-could be an older/amateur restoration or a slightly weathered car-presentable and operable: $1338
Good Condition-very minimal wear, fully presentable and operable-needing nothing: $1838
Your car falls below the minimum rating, meaning it would be considered a parts car or restorable car. That would put the junkyard value between $75 and $150 depending on where you live. The other route to take is the 'auction' (e-bay) route and let the seller tell you how much they will pay. Pictures would be helpful, but it's not a Mustang. Values are climbing for nice and restored cars, but we're here because we love our cars. Money isn't a factor, just a medium for us. Hope this answers your questions without hurting your feelings.

p.s. a car with body damage and a thrown rod is not considered a car in good shape! :read:
thanks for the info and as i said i dont know much about cars just looking for opinions and i ment that as its all in good condition except theose things
Are you planning to fix it back up? You know the guys here will help with parts and advice (some free :surprised:) From where I set it looks to be a great starting point for a nice ride.
Where are you located. Who knows You might be just down the street from one of us!
I live outside of Manchester,Iowa and i dont think i can fix it up because im still in high school and have no money
:welcome: to the site, Josh. The value question is frequently asked, but the individual value of any car is subject to many variables. I understand that a car needing mechanical work may be in good conditions elsewhere. Here are some more issues to consider when trying to come up with a number:
*Amount of miles the car has been driven
*Condition of interior soft trim:dash pad/upholstery/carpet
*Condition of the "small things":dash knobs/seatbelts/pedal pads/dome light/visors/etc.
*Options that your car has: a v-6 is worth more than a 4cyl, an auto is usually worth more than a stick. Working a/c adds value. Deluxe interior adds value. Exterior trim adds value.
*Condition of the overall exterior: Paint condition, extent of body damage, condition of all glass including windshied.
*Condition of all marker lights/taillights/turnsignals
*Condition of wheels/tires/wheelcovers/etc.
If you want to fix up the car for yourself, because you like it, you will be welcome here and we will all help you gather the parts you need and give you advice on how to fix things. You will be surprised how far you can go with how little. My car has some 'donated' parts, and I've passed things along others. Don't let your age discourage you, I bought my first car when I was 16 and fixed it slowly for 6 months (I fixed and sold vacuum cleaners on the side to pay for parts). Then I taught myself how to drive it. We all start somewhere.
I'd like to see more pics of your car, I do like the later cars. Don't be discouraged, you're new, I've been here a while, I'm still learning too. Here is a tip on how to better post pics in your thread so we can all see what you see:
