Title: couple of quickie question on rear springs
Post by: dholvrsn on March 24, 2009, 07:38:13 PM
Are left and right leaf springs different on a wagon? If they are, how do you tell which side is which?

Any tips and techniques on getting those nasty rusty front shackle bolts out?

dholvrsn, on my 77 wagon with v6 and 8 inch rearend the leaf springs are identical. See my thread about ThunderPinto gets a posi rearend. Tip....Warm up the nut bolt area with soldering torch...not to hot...200 max. and then cool down by spraying wd40 or equivelant penetrant. The cooling/contraction of metal will draw the penetrant into the threaded areas. Smear a bit of anti-seize on the threads while warm...impact away.

Don:

Did you get new springs? If so, from where? I think I want to pull my units (wagon also), and have them refurbed.

Hey guys it's been awhile sinse the question was asked but I got my rear leaf springs front a place here in town that makes them from scratch according to oem specs. and they will mod. them any way you want....as I had an additional leaf installed in the forward section to act as an anti-curl traction bar. They were able to come up with all the stuff I needed for the entire overhaul. It was about 500 bucks for bushings, shackles and springs. The place is called Atlas Spring and axil.
