Title: Head bolt socket
Post by: Carolina Boy on March 24, 2009, 06:35:11 PM
Where do you buy the socket for the head bolts on our Pinto 2.3 engine? Do they have a special name like the 2.0, Torx? Can you use a different bolthead type? I may have to rebuild my engine. The compression isn't up to my standards. :nocool:

It takes a 12 point socket, which is nothing too special. I  *think* its metric, cant remember exactly the size tho. Its been about 2 1/2 years since ive had the head off a 2.3.

I just pulled my 2.3 headbolts today.  My standard Craftsman 1/2" socket (12 point, not 6 point) fit rather snug, but without any real forcing.  The bolts came out without issue.  And, I have done this before, - again without issue.  My 2.3 is an '88 from a Turbo Coupe, but I don't thing they are any different.
