hello, im wondering if anyone has a better view of the guts of a trans on my 80 hatchback. i pulled the pan off to change the filter and stuff and when i pulled the pan off there was this little plunger looking deal that was lying in the pan. ita about an inch and a half long, with one inch being realy skinny and the rest is fat and has a o ring around it. just wondering where that goes when i put it back together. Thanks
Branden
im not sure about the older trannys. some of the new truck trannys have a plastic "top" looking thing that is simaler to what you described. it was used in the assembly to keep dust out or fluid in, cant remember, while being put together. once the care is started it spits it into the pan where it awaits its trash can destiny at the first tranny service.

ok, yes its looks just like a spinning top.. I really dont see where the heck it would go either, thanks bob
That is the plug for the dip stick tube hole. During assembly the installer just pushes it into the pan when the dip stick tube is installed. I would think you are the first one to service the trans.
Haha, ya poor little fella. its probly why it was a little hesitant to shift every now and then. the car has 75k so its along time comming. Like always I was nervous to pull off the pan and see if there were any nasty little metal shavings. Thank goodness it was CLEAN!!
