Title: purple wire to the seat belts
Post by: pbean09 on March 14, 2009, 10:10:59 PM
What is the purple stripped wire running to the seat beats for on my 72.

I'm thinking it's from the seatbelt buzzer or the starter-interlock system. This would prevent the car from starting if your seatbelt wasn't engaged. The seatbelt buzzer is self explanatory.

buzzer most likely.  i don't think (not really sure) that they had a starter interlock back then

??? I was pretty sure my '72 had it (it was disengaged) and I know my '74 has it (also disengaged). I could be wrong on the '72. I'll dig up my '72 manual.

My 72 has no buzzer and no "Fasten Seat Belt" light.  On the buzzer, I can't tell you if there was supposed to be one or not. I haven't really looked, just know nothing buzzes. That goes for the other 72 that we scrapped too. It had no visible buzzer or light in dash!! Guess it may have depended on the month of the 72's??

not sure what years but i think that they had a buzzer that was mounted in the upper left corner of the glove box

FWIW, according to the 1977 EVTM*, the wire from the seat belt buckle switch to the buzzer is brown with light blue dots.

YMMV

I know my '72 had the warning Fasten Seat Belt light on the dash because I remember the white lettering lightly smeared across the red lens after I windexed it and the dashboard. Baby's hasn't been done yet.

I'm 99% sure the starter interlock was 1974 only.  Don't know which years used the buzzer/light.
