Title: Ultimate Compact Sport Sedan?
Post by: Pintosopher on February 23, 2009, 11:38:58 AM
Greetings all,
Every once in awhile, (when the rain has me penned in!) I postulate the optimal baseline Pinto for Sporty driving. (This could also equate to the Ultimate Starbucks ride!  8))
  Using the KISS theory:
  2.0 or 2.3L 4 cylinder, V6 2.8L
  No EFI
Carburetion : twin side drafts or 4 bbl - Size dependant on engine build
  Headers, and free flowing exhaust

Suspension : Lowering springs, rate dependant on customer taste
               Sway bars front and rear
               Koni or other adjustable shocks
               Panhard rod or Watts linkage
               traction links for axle tramp
Transmission: 4 speed Quaife Rocket Box or 5spd  t-5 ,t-9
Rear Axle: 8" ford with your choice of LSD

Wheels: 13X7 or 13X8 wheels offset to each end of car (Yeah I know ,limited tire selection,15's would be better, for the tire sizes alone. I'm a Old School Guy
Aero package: Hot pants: like Cookieboy's ride, or Boss Pinto!

This would equate to a ride that will keep up with the average stock sport compact and even outperform some with greater simplicity and great "classic car COOL!

The Sound this ride would make would have you turning off the stereo and Digging the orchestra under the hood.
How do I know this? Folks most of these suggestions are "MY RIDE"!

Bob ,
I know you love boost, But we N/A guys can't stand the sound of our induction  being "altered" . We like the sounds of 4 or 6 velocity stacks resonating a harmonious aural symphony at 7 Grand plus, and then finishing up with the crackle on the overrun and downshift.
Waste gates poppin' just ain't the same, But if I could develop a non-ECu V-tec type cam setup.... wouldn't need boost
