I am doing some reseach for my build book since I'm restricted to light work.
1. I keep seeing the 2000cc 4 barrel manifold for sell.
Was there a 4 barrel setup made for a 2300cc? Would the 2000cc work on a 2300cc???
2. Which headers fit the best on the 78 2.3?
3. When I replace the 6.75" rear off my car with the 76 8", I can use my driveshaft?
4. Would changing over to an electric fan free up any HP?
Later freinds,
Carolina Boy
1. there is a 4 barrel intake for the 2.3. one comes up every now and then on ebay. i dont know if a 2.0 can be addapted to a 2.3.
2. i had an old hedman header on mine, it rubbed the inner fender.
3. i think they are a little different length, but im not possative.
4. it definately will. for what its worth, i had a painless wiring electric fan kit in my mustang and i had nothing but problems with it, the sensor and the relay went out all the time. i just ended up running it to a toggle switch.

The Pinto 2.3 & 2.0 heads are from different engine groups. The 2.0 head is European, the 2.3 is US or Brazilian. Not worth the trouble to try to interchange or modify. Esslinger or a Offy manifold is the way to go for the 2.3 and 4 bbl.
Headers : Esslinger or Schoenfeld . motor mount may need mod
Drive shaft, I used mine from a 6.75 and 4 cylinder when I went to 8" rear no problems.
Electric fan : you bet it's worth the trouble, But I mounted mine on the outside of the Radiator between the grill and such . I've been accused by my competitors of used the fan to "pull " the car through the air faster ;D
Look in Ebay under Offy mustang 4cyl 4 bbl, found one!

You can also get a 4bbl adapter to fit an EFI intake.
71pintoracer,
Would you care to elaborate on that setup? Sounds interesting ;D
If you look in "My Project" for my thread [Project Shurtagul] You will some entries for the 4 barrel manifold and a good kit for the electric fan. Almost forgot. I also used a ranger tubular header [modified] for my pinto and it fell into place.

Ranger lower EFI intake looks like a 4-barrel intake but the mounting holes are not the same as the carb, Racer Walsh makes an adapter to mount the 4-barrel. You can probably pick one up at a yard, I see the intakes and the adapters on e-bay from time to time.
The Ranger "header" will fit but they don't flow. The only advantage over the cast is weight. If I were running a 4-barrel I would get a good full length header. My .02
What year Ranger should I find? I did go to the walsh site and found the adapter. Should I think about a cam change or would a 450 holley work OK if I have long tube headers?
I'll be gettin rid of a lot of anti smog junk, right?
I'm thinking about '86 to '94, mustang and aerostar had them also.
A cam upgrade would be nice, the stock cam gives up at about 5000.
I always ran a 390 so I don't know if the 450 will be too much or not.
Can the smog junk.
I've had better luck on craigs list. recently bought an Offy dual port for half the price on ebay and set of new chrome headers for under $100. The 390 CFM is the way to go. Good luck on your project.
No wonder I couldn't find one, you bought it,
Hey CB,
Some sunny weekend if you're up to a 2 1/2 hour ride, come south to Rock Hill,SC and I'll show you some parts. I have an Offy 2.3 dual port 4 barrel, a couple efi intakes -I use 2 barrel carbs, a Hedman 2.3 header, a Pacesetter 2.3 header, and a bunch of 2.0 stuff. Just thinking you might want to see actual parts before you commit to buying. Shoot me a PM if interested. JT
72pair, Thanks for the offer. ;D Can I have a rain check on that as it will be awhile before I can make such a long trip due to my recovery. :( I did see a 4barrel setup on ebay today by OFFY but the bidding started at $245. :amazed: What do they run new? ???
Gee, could I buy one of yours ;D
