Post by: electrabishi on February 22, 2009, 01:41:37 PM
Just thought I'd forward this on to any Pinto lovers who are interested.
Our electric Crazyhorse Pinto is featured in the National Electric Drag Racing Association 2009 Calendar.
Just so you are aware the Calendars are 13 month calendars and run from February 2009 through February 2010.
We are the December entry.

Sure thing.  Just as an update on the car, you may remember we were running direct drive into a 3.25:1 rear end.  We wound up with best 60 ft of 1.69 seconds.  For direct drive I had to go that low so I didn't over rev the motors on the top end at around 105 mph.  So to get a better launch and not give up my top end we bought a Gear Vendors Overdrive unit and swapped in 4.11's into the rear end.  Now we should gain quite a bit on the launch and in overdrive have an effective ratio of 3.2:1.  We're doing this and silver plating all our battery straps to try reducing the ohmic losses.  We found that that even adding the extra junction of a copper washer between the bolt head and the battery terminal introduced enough resistance to drop our 12 second times into the 13's.  So we lose the washers and silver plate the straps to reduce ohmic losses.  Even a minuscule reduction promises to help us greatly. We are shooting to break into the 11's this summer.

Keep in mind we'll be in Portland July 24-25th if there is anyone down that way that wants to come watch :-)

We're going to make up some Electric Crazyhorse Pinto t-shirts to help us raise funds to drive down from Anchorage.

Mike

Here's the results of the 4.11 gear swap.  Still working on coordinating the series/parallel switch on the motors and the Gear Vendors Overdrive shift.  Trying to figure out how to make my controller anticipate the S/P switch and shift the GV unit 1 second before that.  For now the manual override (my finger) pushes the button as soon as we get launched and under control.  No personal bests yet this last two weekends at the track.  But 60 ft's went from 1.89's to 1.68's :-)
