Title: Milwaukee Auto Show stories-WITH PICTURES!!!
Post by: 78squirewagon on February 21, 2009, 07:28:30 AM
The wagon is on display (along with other members of the Losers Car Club) and last night was a black tie gala. A lot of dealers and what not walked through and it was fun to hear stories about how they sold them.
One guy saw my wagon and mentioned that it was the first car he ever sold and that he made $5000.oo (five thousand)in commission off a USED wagon. I had to ask how since they did not sell for that much new? He told me that this older lady walked onto the dealership he was working at and really liked the car and he told her that it was 7500.oo so she bought it. The guy was dead serious about this so I had to believe him. But then again, this was the 70's and the gas crunch was on  ;D
Most of the people that see it say " Oh my god, high school memories" and start laughing. If last night is any indication on how the next 8 days are going to be, it will be a lot of fun.

That's a cool story Mark! Your wagon looks great! I think about it every time I look thru the 78 brochure. I heard stories that during and shortly after the gas crunch, small cars were in such high demand that used cars were being sold for more than they went for new. Appreciation instead of depreciation?

Today was a lot of fun with the show open to the general public. Again, the stories I heard and the appreciation that everyone showed the little wagon was great. Of course they loved all of the cars we have on display including the "Fake 50", a VW Woody (full custom from the ground up), the 1924 Model A and the rest. They come to the show to see new cars and the TV/movie ones and the Losers (yes, that is the name of the club  www.loserscarclub.com) are a pleasant suprise.
Only 8 full days to go  ;D

THANKS

Mark

It's the end of day (full) day three and I really wish I had 1.oo for every  smile and laugh that my wagon has brought to people's faces. I could have enough to fully restore my white wagon by the end of the week ;D IT"S BEEN GREAT!!!  But they love looking at the other cars in the room as well (we have 15 different cars in a LARGE conference room. Today must have been senior day because it was an older group. Hearing stories about the Edsels and other cars we have on display is always a lot of fun

I have been telling people about FPCCA and they love it. People cant belive that there is a group that is dedicated to keeping the Pintos and Bobcats on the road but like the fact that someone is.

Here are some pictures from the load in last Tuesday. We had to drive them into a service elevator and then through a set of double doors. Getting the 33 Chevy Modified in that room was a trip in itself.  ;D

Wow. I don't know what else to say! lol

Looking through the pictures, it seems like everyone is having a great time, and I'm sure everyone is enjoying looking at all of the cars on display. I hope you come back with another trophy! :D

No awards at this show :)  We were invited down by Motor Trend magazine and they have been bending over backwards for us. Other than having to pay for parking and food (unless you bring your own), we have gotten pretty much everything we have asked for. Free power for the TV's (so I can show Pinto videos  ;D) Free admission for our club members and friends and the respect of the people attending. It's been a LOT of fun. Not like attending other car shows.

I will have more pictures next week  ;D

WOW, what a show this was. That's all I am going to say. My wagon was in yesterdays (Sundays) Milwaukee newspaper and a lot of people came out just to see it as well as the other cars from the Losers Car Club.
I might have a lead on red 78 coupe that a son is going to TRY and get his dad to sell me  ;D

Enjoy the pictures

What's up with the '49-50 Ford ends on what looks like a '90 T-bird?

There is a fiberglass kit that has been out for a couple of years that turns a Thunderbird or Cougar coupe into a 1949 Ford.  They look pretty nice and the company advertises that you can do the work in a weekend. LOL!  I think that they cost about $1,500 and they used to be advertised in Old Cars Newspaper.

That's an all metal car, not a fiberglass kit, mounted to a 1994 T-Bird. The same guy built two of them in WI and both are in our club  :D  That particular one was a good running 1950 Ford. When the owner was handing over the keys after a final ride around the neighborhood, the builder started taking a sawzall to it LOL!!!!
From what I was told, before the glass kits came out, the builder had figured out that the 1949-50 Fords were just about as wide as the T-Birds and came up with the idea of combining the two. The back had to have a couple of inches grafted in but the front bolted right up to the stock T-Bird body and there you have it
