Well since you all would be the ones to ask...and to make a long story short, I did a motor swap in the daughters Mustang II, from a v6 to a 2.3. The V6 had a 4 speed (but wouldn't work with the 2.3) and took a shorter driveshaft than the 2.3 and a Pinto 4 spd. trans. I'm looking for a donor for the longer shaft, a wagon possibly? The shaft I have now is 45 1/2" center to center on the u joint. I need a shaft 4" longer at 49 1/2". Any idea's besides building a new unit? thanks
I tried to see on the PCCA map what area you might be in, but you're not on it yet. If you have a Pick Your Parts type junk yard near you or have access to something like it, you may be able to get lucking under a minivan, etc. Other car makes (brand X) can be a good source too. Adaptor U-joints are available that can mix and match almost anything together. Watch for aluminum ones, they're high dollar if you buy a new one but there are a lot of them out there (CHEAP), but look closely, a lot also get damaged when the vehicle is picked up by the wrecking yard fork lift so be selective.
I found it, a 79 mustang was the length I needed, 3 1/2" longer and the same u joints as the Mustang II worked in it
