The sunroof in my hotrod '72 Runabout is currently held shut with a block of wood and I'd like to get it functional again. Anybody got expertise in rebuilding those things and know where I can go for info? I'm also in the market for a good shop manual if someone's got a source for those.
According to my sale brochures and shop manuals, the Pinto did not get the sunroof option until 73. If it is factory, it may be an end year addition.
If no one here is selling a set, I found ebay a convenient source. Try searching with this header:
197*, Ford, (shop manual*,service manual*,factory manual*,EVTM*,electrical & vacuum*) -truck*

Thanks for the info. I just recently came into possession of a 1972 Runabout with a sunroof. The registration label on the driver's side door jamb says it was manufactured 05/72. It sure looks like a factory installation, Any opinions out there about the value/funtion of the sunroof? i am new to this sight, I amgrateful for any info, thanks.

looking in my 1972 sale brochure it shows 2 different pictures of a pinto w/sunroof and describes it as an option.
I saw entropys car at Fab fords 2009. I think his is the EARLIEST factory sunroof car in existence. I would bet money his car is the two tone Cherry red/silver car that Henry Ford II used to own in San Jose. I have a buddy that is installing that roof right now in his pinto. He is having http://www.americansunroof.com/ (http://www.americansunroof.com/) do in the install and hopefully rebuild the unit. Email me and i'll keep you posted. Pintopower@hotmail.com
Yes ,they were an option in 72. We ran across one a few months ago. The car is for sale by the original owner.I am thinking about buying it for a parts car it's pretty rusty, but does have the factory half vinyl top and roll back sunroof like my 77 Starsky car.
I went back and double checked my 72 sales brochure and can not find a sun roof option (however I have read these wrong before and may need better glasses). My 72 brochure was printed in 8/71, so apparently there were some changes since its printing along with later printings.
My 72 Ford manual (printing Sep 71) does not show the Pinto manual sun roof. My 73 Ford manual (printing September 72) does show it. So if you can not find a later pinting of the 72 manual, you may need to get a 73 manual (I am assuming the mechanisms would be the same).
I was told by a reliable source that it was the same sunroof that came in the BMW'S of the same vintage,(2002 series) maybe you can get info from BMW... Good Luck!
