I am rebuilding the 2.3L motor on my pinto and on my exhaust manifold I have the EGR tube and then there was a valve that broke off. I can't find out what part this was. can anyone help?
Try the Thermactor Check valve for 74+ Engines. It threads in between the exhaust ports for Cylinders #3 & 4 on the manifold. This is also shown for 1977 and later 2.3L. Could also be the EGO sensor (exhaust gas oxygen sensor) which is closer to Cylinder #4 and the header pipe seam.

The Pinto did not come with EGO sensor.
Thermactor (smog pump) check valve yes.
Do you have to pass emissions where you live??
If not you will not need that part.
I have the check valve, I checked tonight and the part that actually broke was the fitting that goes into the exhaust manifold and the EGR tube threads into it. Do you know where I can get one of these or how I can make one?
dont know if this will help you any or not but schoenfield makes a great header for the 2.3 that would be your best bet jmo
