Finally Saturday came around and at 7 am this morning we embarked on a journey to pick up the new Pinto. 1979 Ford Pinto Trunk Model. I didn't know if it was a hatch or a trunk but had a hunch it was a trunk. The car shows 56,000 miles and judging by the wear on the keys it might be 156,000. You can't tell that by looking at the car itself though... Anyways it took the three hour journey through the country and up and down the West Virginia mountainside like a champ and it is sitting in its new home beside of its big brother, my 1978 Pinto Hatchback. Enjoy this pictures of my new street-legal  Pinto.

Oh and P.S in case you were wondering... My '78 and '79 are ironically the same color AND my mom graduated in '78 and my dad in '79. Just a couple fun facts ::)
Also the car is in great shape. All it really needs is a thourough cleaning and some TLC... new weatherstripping >:( and new piping for the exhaust... for some reason the catalytic converter and muffler is new but the pipe is shot and there is a big exhaust leak... but all said and done I can't complain. ;D Engine has only 900 miles on rebuild and the car has practically been restored down to paint.. weatherstripping is the only major issue.

Congratulations! Looks like a super-nice driver! Enjoy!

Ha ha actually orange is my favorite color so I don't mind it. I've put almost 400 miles on her already and she runs like a true champ. The feel of no power steering or brakes indicates you are driving a true classic and I really enjoy it.

My first Pinto was a '74 orange Runabout with the black interior, 2300 cc, 4 spd. Orange was my favorite color in those days and I special ordered my car. Like you, I enjoy the feel of the manual steering/brakes, transmission, etc. - it had been years since I'd driven anything like that until I bought my '72 sedan last year. Driving it has been a real "blast from the past"! When it's all finished (hopefully this summer), it will be just as orange as yours ;D!
Dwayne
Square headlights and almost Allis-Chalmers colored! What's not to like?
Actually I kinda like the orange!!! ;D I have 2 brown one's, and 2 green ones, would be nice to have a different color!! LOL Course 2 of mine are in disquise as they are either primered or painted another color of the original color! LOL I would love to have an orange one too!! :) Can't have to many Pintos, right?? LOL
HAAAYYY there, thats a sweet couple of pintos!
I have to say im also a lover of the right orange! Im planning a full repaint of mine ( hopefully this year?? ) and my fave is a bright orange. If youve seen the cover of Hot Rod jul 08 with Jr's Camaro, thats the orange im talking about.
My other fave is corvette Yellows ,Porsche Red and grabber blue as well. Although if i had unlimited money id go with a deeeeeep brandywine red/burgundy. Big money!!
LOL i tend to ramble a bit.
So, sweet rides you have there. Have to be honest though, im more interested in your Racecar Pinto LOL!
Looks like a prize!!!! Finding just what you want is like impossible, but looks like you found it rite down to the color. Congrats.
congrats on the new pinto!!! for what its worth, never rate the milage on keys....they are replaced easily. look at the brake or clutch pedal first. lotsa wear...lotsa use.
i thought you sold your old pinto...http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php/topic,10010.msg62327.html#msg62327...what went wrong?

Well... I received a downpayment for the '78... then we had regrets of selling it and tried to come up with the money to buy it back... then we went ahead with the sell and now we can't get a hold of the buyer and the car has been setting in the garage without a true owner since... August? I think. So I really don't know how the situation with the old Pinto will pan out, we might end up keeping it and he might end up taking delivery someday.

people are wierd. i never understood how someone could pay a down payment like in your case then just vanish. that kinda stuff drives me crazy. theyll probably come back and act like its perfectly normal. because of course for them, your garage is free storage.
bob
Yeah I tried to convince my dad to call and leave him a message if not speak to him personally and tell him we are going to begin to charge a storage fee. I either want it back or want it gone, being in between and constantly wondering isn't fun... its bad enough I have to know I have it sold and then have to look at it's sad face everyday wondering where it's new home is going to be :P I am going to keep the Rallye steering wheel off of it and put my '79 wheel on there so I will always have a piece of it.

Looks good!
Chuck
WOW, :hypno: Almost ran to the window to see if my pony was still under wraps. But then noticed the different wheels & mud flaps. Nice find !

beegle55: Hey!!!!!! I just noticed this thread on your new Pinto. I knew you were getting it, I just didn't realize there was a thread on it. Looks fantastic, yes..... the orange color is cool for the Pinto, that's nearly the same color as my 1972. I'm glad to see young people enjoy the true beauty of the Pinto, my generation didn't really seem to appreciate it at the time (I did, I loved them, had 3), but we do now. Anyway, great find. By the way, I have a set of seats just like yours I found while salvaging. They are in great shape, just a tear on the driver's side, an easy fix. I wasn't sure what year the car was I got it from, but I was thinking 1978 or 1979, it had the square headlamps. Anyway, great find, good luck with it. Oh yeah, continue to love it, it'll be nice for you to have around when you're my age. Larry :police:
While I'm busy loving this one over the next few years I hope to acquire a couple more over the years... but thanks for the comments...
