Is there a difference in the master cylinders between a 74 and a 76 pinto BOTH with manual brakes? I need a master cylinder for my 74, but when i look up one on oreilly website for a 74, all it shows is a REMAN manual brake MC and a NEW power brake MC. I do not want a reman MC, i want a new one. However, for the 76 they do show a NEW manual brake MC. I always figured they were the same thing. Are they really different or is it a goof up in their computer? If they are different, will it still work on my 74?
Going off of www.rockauto.com (http://www.rockauto.com), the only difference between the two is the secondary outlet size.
For 74, it is 1/2x20
For 76, it is 9/16x18
The bore and primary outlet sizes are the same. That being said, you can use a 76 on your 74, but you would have to change the fitting that goes in the secondary outlet. This would be a bit of a pain.
The aforementioned website does sell new 74 masters.
