Title: Fuel tank vent valve
Post by: dave1987 on January 24, 2009, 11:18:38 PM
Is it located on top of the tank? I noticed that the last time I gassed up, I smelled some fuel fumes in the car until the fuel got down to a little over 3/4 full.

How hard is it to drop the tank and replace that valve and grommet? Also, where can I get a new grommet? I have a valve off a 77 bobcat tank that should work.

I replaced my filler neck grommet last summer, I'm not to worried about that seal. It's the vent valve grommet I'm trying to find.

Someone here just replaced their valve and grommet, but i can't find the thread.

SSCEnterprises - www.sscenterprises.net carries these. I just got a new one for my tank.

Yes, there is a 90 degree plastic elbow with a grommet at the top of the tank.
As posted above, you can get these from SSCEnterprises - www.sscenterprises.net
You need to pull the tank to get to this.

As a temporary fix, drill a super small hole in the plastic valve on the inside of the gas cap.
That will vent the tank to prevent a pressure build up.
You can check if you did it right by blowing & sucking on the cap.
If you can get air in both directions.

I dropped the tank and replaced the valve and grommet. Posted pictures of the process in my project log. Thanks everyone!
