Hey guys,
My Turbo Pinto has not run right since I got it going. Last week it basically died and (thanks to AAA Plus) I had it towed home. After driving about 8 miles the car started to barely run. I stopped it (well..., it really stopped itself) and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. I got it going again drove it around a parking lot for a while, but it started pulling the same games about a mile later.
While it could be many things the TFI module is likely 20 years old and has 150,000 miles on it. I noticed at Pick A Part last time there was an LTD/Crown Vic??? That has the module mounted on a heat sink and located on the radiator cradle. Has anyone made this swap? Even if the car ran right given the history of TFI failure it still seems like a good idea.
Thanks, Tom
Here's one article on in moving the TFI: http://www.howardsupply.com/ford-merkur-xr4ti/ford-merkur-tfi-module-problems.htm (http://www.howardsupply.com/ford-merkur-xr4ti/ford-merkur-tfi-module-problems.htm)
I've seen others that use the heat sink out of an F150??

yep, the f150s have the heat sink...at least the 96 with 4.9 do for sure. its an easy mod and well worth the effort. use a motorcraft module too.
