Just wondering, how many of you carry a spare tire? (in your car ;D) I know a lot of us run larger diameter rims and wide profile tires that wouldn't even fit in the spare tire wheel well. If you don't carry a spare what do you use this space for. I do currently carry a 13 inch spare (14's on the rear) but I am thinking of using this space for tools, spare belts, and safety items.
I have not had a flat tire on a car in years, I know this will probably jinx me. Tire reliability has come a long ways, and some new cars don't even come with spares. Roadside assistance has also improved.
No spare tire here, don't have room! I haven't had a flat on any of my vehicles in a long time, hope to keep it that way! ::) My nitrous bottle and battery occupy that space, so I don't even have room for one.
I carry a spare, it's a 13" Continental whitewall bias-ply. I have 14x6's on the car.
I keep a spare in mine. 13x6 with a 185/75/R13 all season on it.
I have the original spares and jacks in both my wagons. Eventually I will use the spare tire well for a sub on my 79 wagon. The 78 CW will stay original as it still has the factory AM radio that works.
Well, you never know when you are going to run over a nail! :o
I have a matching white wheel as my spare
i carry a aluminum spare from a 83 to 86 tbird. its a 15" with a space saver tire on it. they also made them for the convertible mustangs in the 80's and early 90's.
I have a spare tire in my Pinto. Like you I am also carrying tools & spare parts like the belts, voltage regulator, bulbs, fuses, tape, wire, connectors, distributor, distributor cap & rotor... I have found the Pintos use just the basics as far as tools & the parts I mentioned will fit in the bottom of a small tool box. Good thing these things are easy to work on when they break down on the side of the road.
my spare is a full size. its the ansen style rim. kinda wish i had 4rims of the same size lol.

Same with me. It also fits nice and flush with the floor so there is no hump.
i replaced my spare with a cell phone but i do cary a jack as MANY cars inter change and it wouldn't be the first time i barrowed a tire in the middle of the night off of i5 but that was a chevy celebrity
i had just bout 5 new toyo 800 the day before and got 3 blow out in less then 200 miles i was so f$$$$ mad ill never buy from les swchab again
IF I were to remove the spare tire, I would add a can of Fix-a-Flat to the "tools, spare belts, and safety items" you mentioned carrying in the spare tire well. I would also carry a cell phone. Not a perfect solution, but better than nothing!

I finally used the spare tire that came with my car! Well, for about 10 minutes, then the damn thing popped cause it was so dry rotted. Now I don't believe I have anything there.
YES!, I have the original 13" bias ply. Running stock 13" rims & have 13x5 alumn rims also to put on. With my luck, I'll leave it in.

Yes, it would be on my mind all the time driving without one. Not a good feeling IMO.
One of the reasons why i would not want to go to 5 lug rear or all the way round. To my knowledge they didnt make a small enough wheel to fit in the spare tire area that was 5 lugs.
Also i used to have the orignal spare back in the late 80s all the way to mid nineties. that thing was fun on a rainy day! I could spin it forever!! LOL!
Yes, I know this is an old post, but seeing as I haven't logged in for over five months (baby raising takes a lot of time), so as they say 'it's new to me'. When I was still driving my Pinto daily, I was using a 'rubber band' spare from a mid 90s Escort. IIRC, it is almost the same height as the 185/75R13's on forged aluminum (Ansen style) wheels. Only cost me $5 at the pick and pull, still had the knobbies on it, and it even smelled brand new! Realize of course, that was in the late 90s.
