Title: PCCA License plate frame
Post by: discolives78 on January 14, 2009, 05:51:57 PM
Ok, so I got my "Charter Member" license plate frame, and it looks great! I went out to put it on my car and due to my bad luck, I couldn't mount it on my car!  My 78 has the holes for the license plate on the bumper that hold the bottom of the plate and there is nothing supporting the back of the top of the plate. The holes for mounting the frame are for the top of the plate and not the bottom. I tried mounting the plate on the bottom with the bolts and putting the frame over the plate and putting screws and nuts thru the top holes of the frame and plate, but it was way too wobbly, so I took it back off for now, I still have my "Ford Motorsports" license plate frame on it. I need to fabricate something to support it from behind I guess.

I also need to buy or fabricate a front license plate holder. I live in a one-plate state, so a lot of cars have nothing to mount a front plate to.

By the way, the calendar is great! It's huge.

It sounds like you just got what I did for Christmas! :D

I got the PCCA Calendar and the License Plate frame as an x-mas present from my parents and I have the frame on my 07 Saturn at the moment, for the same reasons you don't have yours on your car. I'm also looking into a way of putting it on my Pinto, but no luck so far. :(

At least you all can use your plate covers. Here in AZ you get a ticket if it coveres the "state" name on the license plate itself.

My 77 has a factory plate holder that attaches to the bumper with 2 bolts.  No problem to take it of and drill the needed holes.  Oh, so does my 78.

I figured out the solution while I was at Autozone last night:

$4.99. It has holes and slots all over it! I mounted it to the original holes on the steel bracket.

I bought two of thees this morning and I installed them this afternoon. I had to slightly oblong the bottom holes on the bracket for the front, and enlarge the bottom holes on the bracket for the rear pate. Thees brackets solved a problem that I had been trying to solve fore quite awhile.
Thanks

Leonard

I bought one the other day and tried it on the car. Is it just me or does the cover flap around a lot on the bottom?

Take the cover and plate off. Flip it over and look on the inside on the bottom edges, there are two small tabs molded into the frame, tuck your license plate under those tabs and reinstall it and that will cure your flapping problem.
