Title: Cruiser panels
Post by: Carolina Boy on January 14, 2009, 05:02:22 PM
??? I asked in another thread about cruiser panels. If some one could make a mold for fiberglassing the panels, we could have a few more Cruisers making peoples eyes pop out!!!! :amazed: :amazed: :amazed:

Just a thought,
Carolina Boy

Are the panels just flat or do they have little bends?  If someone could supply me with a set of panels I may be able to reproduce them in sheet metal.

They have compound curves, including turning the corner around the rear pillars.

Does not make them impossible to make just keeps them from being cheap.  I have a laser and a couple of big brakes.

There are also the economies of this thing since these panels pop up on eBay and elsewhere for ~$300-400.

A better bet may be making floor pans. There's a much wider demand too.

Depending on the make up of the panels I could beat that price if I made 10 or 12 pairs (just to use a number) and put them on the shelf for future sales.  Again it just depends on the price.

Floorpans would be a problem though.  That requires a stamping maching and I do not have one of those.

The problem with making the Cruiser panels is where would the purchaser get the bubble side glass?

Perhaps make the true delivery panels without the window?

Very good point Mike!

I know of a place here in Idaho that we used to use when I worked for McDonalds, that does custom formed and cut to size glass. I have no clue what the price on something like the bubble porthole windows would be, but I will try to pull out my old outside services contact info and see what I can find, if anyone is really interested that is.

Making them without the window opening would be very easy.  The panels would be cut out on a laser so that would simply done by a single click and suppressing a line of code.  There is a plastics company I do a lot of work with that I could get a quote from for the windows.

Jake were is the plastic co., while back I installed a new eng. on A36 Beechcraft for a guy that had a plastic mold place. Dont worry about floor pans I have so many you get youre choice of color. The metal is FREE you pay cut out labor + ship cost. Jake thanks for the clutch its in use in my driver 74, and nice wagon if the price was right I would go tow.  Fred   :)

Fred,

The plastic company is in Simi Valley.  Glad to hear about the clutch.  What would be the right price?

The front left firewall corner went for $40.00 + ship. The right floor front went for $50.00 + $25.36 ship to Chicago area. Hows that for some good info..  Fred   :)    I could probably check paper work to see ship cost of corner piece, I think it went to east coast. I don't remember it being expensive.
