Title: Got to see my 1971 PInto from Washington State
Post by: larjohnson on January 11, 2009, 06:47:17 PM
Went Friday afternoon and got to finally see the 1971 Pinto I bought out of Washington State.  The car needs some TLC, but actually is very nice, I'm very pleased :).  I took the new alternator to the garage where I had it dropped off, and they've installed it.  Found out the condenser is bad, so they replaced that also.  They also found a bent tie rod, they're looking for a new one to replace it with.  Also, Dave from smallfryefarms furnished me with the rims I needed, now I'm having 13 inch rims and tires installed, to replace the 15 inch Mustang rims and tires that were on it.  The seats I found while salvaging last month, are at the upholstery shop, and will be recovered probably by the end of next week.  Over the next couple of months, I'll get new carpet and a new dash cap for it.  Went to Paddocks in Knightstown, Indiana Friday also, and purchased some original Ford Pinto interior paint, along with a rubber boot for the automatic shifter.  I'm hoping by the end of April, the interior will be completely finished.  The outside of the car is in amazing shape.  There are only a couple of small dents, and some minor rust.  I'm hoping when I take it to the body shop in the fall, they can just spot fix and repaint, keeping as much of the original paint as I can.  If not, guess I'll just have the entire car repainted.  This car is going to be a real hit at the car shows this summer, it's really awesome.  Just as a side note, the Pinto posted with my profile is my 1972 I bought this past spring.  It was a one owner all original with 33,000 miles on it.  Even though my new 1971 is sweet, it's not that sweet, yet.  But it will be.  Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with it, and I haven't even driven it yet.  Once I get it home, I'll see if there's anything I need to go salvaging for, but it came with a trunk load of goodies, don't know what's in there yet, but I'm sure some great stuff.  Anyway, I will be posting some pix soon, and will keep you all updated on how the process of restoration is coming.  Larry :police:

I'm attaching a pix of my 1971 Pinto I got from Washington State.  I'll be posting more pix later, as they become available, to show progress of the restoration.

Got the seats back today from the Upholstery shop.... they look great.  They were recovered with the original 1971 Ford Fabric, but put on in a little different type design.  They way the shop recovered them, gives them a more modern and sporty look.  Thinking about having the rear seat recovered too, even though it really doesn't need it.  The 13 inch rims have been put on, along with the new whitewall 13 inch tires.  I'm very happy with the progress.  Will be posting additional pix soon.  Larry :police:

Well.... my Buddy John and I went salvaging on Friday and found a turn signal lens, bumper guard, vent knob, and gas cap.  I don't think I can use any of this but the turn signal lens.  Got my carpet, dash cap, and a new vent knob ordered for the Pinto.  It's coming along nicely, and I'm anxious for warmer weather....
