I did a search on 14/15 inch wheels with the 4 lug patern and saw a post saying the fox bodied 5.0 cop cars had the larger wheels. I am assuming these are steel wheels, does anyone know what the rim width might be and if they are 14 or 15 inch. And last are they hard to locate. Anyone use them on a 71-73 pinto.
Kevin
I don't know about cop wheels but all the late model stangs Ive seen as cop cars have the 15x7's on them. they are the nice styled wheels.
In Florida here, the state troopers used the 5.0 fox Mustang for awhile. From what I remember, the wheels looked like the standard 10 hole fox Mustang aluminum wheel but was painted black. I believe they left the hub cap unpainted. The 10 hole wheels are 15" by 7" wide with the 4.25" bolt pattern. They bolt on to the Pinto but I do not know what the tire size limit is. The 10 hole wheels also came on the early 80's Thunderbirds but with a different hub cap.
a 245/60/15 on a 10 hole fit on my 74 if that helps.

the ones i was thinking of were the style on reeds pinto that he sold. the red 71. those are what were on the cop cars where i grew up.
the early cop foxes had 14" steel wheels and the later used 15s. they go for about 600 a set if you can find them. i ended up going to a company in california that reproduces steel wheels and got 2 15x8 with my specific offset shipped to the house for 160, brand new..... if you are interested ill look up where i got them from tonight and post it up for you.
4cammer72, yes I am interested in those steel wheels, what did you put them on and what size tire were you able to run?
I am running aftermarket chromed steel wheels with 14 on the rear and matching 13's up front on my 73 wagon. but the rus tpitting is starting to get worse I would like to go up to 14's up front and 15's in the rear.
This was an option on the mid 1980s CHP mustang before the 10 hole alloy was used. It was also listed in the Early SVO parts catalog of the same era.
Pintosopher
pintosopher, what are the width on those? If you know.
Kevin
Hummm...., yes, numbers (sizes, part #'s) would be great to get. Regarding the reference to the early 80's T-Birds, can that be confirmed to be the same wheel?
I have a '73 Valiant and "just" got myself a set of Mopar cop wheels before they disappeared from the Pick A Part. I got them for $10 each. Then shortly afterwards the price went through the roof. Those ,dog dish, cop car hubcaps with the holes in them, - they will run you about $150 for a nice set!
Anyway, I wouldn't want to miss out on something similar over here on the Ford side.
72Wagon,
Sorry for this diversion from steel wheels.
Wittsend,
There are some pictures of 1986 turbocoupes with the 10 hole aluminum rims at http://www.turbotbird.com. Go to the showroom section-N and click on Nick Terezes photo. Another one is in section-R under name Roy Howard.
72Wagon,
The Ford Motorsport catalog P/N is : M-1007-D157. Its a 15" diameter and 7" wide 4 hole wheel.
It's probably no longer available :-\
Pintosopher
the 15s are on my pinto in the rear. right now im only running a 225-60-15 but could go much bigger. got tied up with a electrician last night so ill look up the manufacturer tonight when i get to the house.
this is where i got them i think ( my origonal link is dead) and they did the rims setup for the inside tangs like the smoothies in a 4 lug dual pattern unpainted and shipped for 160. i wanted the nostalgia rim so i could use the stock hubcap but they said they could not do the 4 lug pattern in that rim style

Thanks everybody, no I can go do some more research. One more question first, What are your cars running on, by this I mean do you run the same diameter size rims front and rear.
I have always run the 13's on the front and 14's on the rear mainly because of the raked look and also because the wagons seem to have oversized rear wheel opening that dont look right with the 13's.
Thanks again
Kevin
thanks everybody
Current 255/60/r14's in the rear and 195/70/13's in the front
After i get my new rims those will be 255/50/R15's rear and 205/60/r14's in the front
I have 1986 police car wheels on a 72 Runabout. Rear tires are 225/50 and 205/50 in the front. The car is lowered about 1 3/4" all around and uses 1 1/4" wheel spacers in the rear and 1" spacers in the front. I don''t know if they will fit without the spacers. I didn''t even try because the wheel would be sticking in the wheel wells to far.
Thanks Bipper, nice looking car. That answered one of my questions.
