Title: Carb Swap
Post by: jeep1 on January 06, 2009, 04:59:01 PM
What carbs can be swapped on to a 2.3 using the stock manifold? Has anybody done this? I'm thinking a Motocraft 2100 but don't know what adapter to use. Thanks

No adapter needed, 2100 will bolt direct to manifold.  Fred   :)

Thanks Fred. I've been using the 1.08 version for 6 cylinder jeeps and they work great. The 1.08 flows about 290 cfm, would that be too large for the 2.3?

The Holley 350 is a direct bolt on too.

290 cfm is not to big for the 2300. You could go up to 500 cfm with no huge issues.

srt, what am I looking at? I'm guessing the linkage if it's a direct bolt on. Any info you have would be appreciated. I've put several of these on jeeps so I've tuned them before.

Same thing I did. I seam to remember it bolted right to the manifold, it was the cable that was a little more tricky.

guys mine was on a 2.0 not a 2.3 so i can't help you there.  i don't think that it would be too difficult though.  ingenuity is abundant on this site.  somebody is bound to chime in as to how it might be done

jeep1 you will need to fabricate bracket mount for throttle cable. I cant remember if my daughters 71 Pinto with Ranger engine is still together other wise I can get you a picture later of my 79 Ranchero with the 2.3 and the 2100 set up, I just drove it around block yesterday sounds funny [exhuast].  Fred   :)

So how do these other carbs compare to the 5200?

A Holley 390 is a HUGE improvement. I had one on my 2.0 with headers and the stock cam bumped up 2 degrees, it was like a new engine! However I ran into one problem, when it was cold outside (35 and below) the cold air would "ice up" the carb and it would flood at idle. I stopped one time and looked into the carb and there was actually ICE in the carb bores!!  :o It mainly did it in the first drive of the morning, I could cut it off for a few minuets and then it was fine the rest of the day.

I am also running the 390 Holley with header, I also only drive it when it's above 40 degs.( no chokes and no heater ).
