Title: swapping motors
Post by: Pinto_dude on September 11, 2004, 01:09:38 AM
I have a 1978 pinto runabout. it has the v6 motor. I want to know if it would easily bolt into a 1974 pinto wagon. it had a 2300. they are both automatics. the body on the 74 is perfect, but a blown engine. the 78 engine is good, but car is trashed. please let me know. also, is it a back yard mechanic job, or do i need help from the pros. Steven ???

Hey Pinto Dude...
I'm doing about the same thing. I'm planning to swap a V6/C4/8inch out of a Mustang II into a 2.3L/C3 Pinto Wagon. The donor car and the Pinto are the same year (1976), and I'm trying to find any info and/or 'Hints'. Do you have any good info to share? Please let me know... And if I hear anything I'll let you know also. Thanks, Robert (Robbo II)

Well I'm not exatly an "expert" but, I'll offer my 2c. take the 2.8 out of the runner by removing the frame mounts as well ast the motor mounts. (I don't think the frame mounts are different, but just in case) Then if the 2300 frame mounts are the same, you should just be able drop the 2.8 in place of the 2.3 Most of the supply systems SHOULD be the same. I can't remember if the '74 autos had a cooler line or not.
