here is a idea for some of you it might work just right find a svo pull 2300 and 5 speed out then pull rear and front suspen and place in a pinto maybe make a good road rally car.just a idea
I did the motor and trans out of an 84 SVO in my first Pinto.
Tigman,
Yes, this is a popular swap. However, more often the engine and transmission are sourced from the far more plentiful T-Bird, Turbo Coupes (1983-1988). Another option is the Murkur (same engine, different transmission).
Regarding the suspension swap, it would be a significant amount of work, if even possible to do. The Pinto has a conventional A-Arm configuration while the SVO has struts. Regarding the rear end, the 8.8" of the SVO is too wide and is set up for coil springs rather than the leaf springs used on the Pinto. The Pinto or Mustang II 8" rear end is a straight bolt in and sufficiently strong under most applications.
Since this has peeked your interest you might do a search at this site for "Turbo, T-5," and other key words related to this swap. There is a wealth of information from those who have "been there and done that." I would caution though that on the surface this looks like a #2 on a scale of 1-10, but my experience is that a #7 is a more realistic reality regarding the difficulty.

he used a modified xmember off a fox body so it can be done. the fox body 8.8 will fit but youd have to weld some leaf perches on the axle. i think they are about an inch different or so. although buying an aftermarket heavy duty torque box set up and fabing a fox body 4 link into a pinto would be cool. also keep in mind that the svos had a one inch wider track then the standard fox bodies. if im not mistaken, its all the same as a mark 7....could be wrong about that though.
all in all though, the factory pinto set up could be modified to handle very well. that probably be the easiest and cheapest route.
