I have a pinto 78 squire wagon,I know I can get a manifold and larger carb,and a shift kit.
Is there any cheaper things I can do ,It goes alright when it goes just so slow of the line so to speak.
It,s a 2.8. all I know is how to maintain it.Not mechanically inclined.
And how is a stage 11 and a stage 111 shift kit better.whats the diff?
From pinto Magick.Thanx.
The shift kit might help on the lowend launches. my 75 bobcat wagon does alright with the 2.8 thats in it. but its Tired and needs to be retired Offy makes a great 4bbl intake manifold for them, and you can (if you can find it) get a rare EFI manifold for them too. good luck and welcome
Drive a 1600, then go back to your 2.8, it will be faster!!! (http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m247/myhrdly/laughing4-giggles.gif)
Sorry, I had to do it!!! LOL ;D
Good luck!!!
The best way to get more out of your car is with a set of lower gears. While a 4bbl manifold will give you better overall performance in theory it won't make any difference off the line. I say in theory, because the Edlebrock manifold "will" probably make a difference over the whole RPM range. Will it be enough to satisfy you - don't know.
im pretty sure they make performance cams and headers for these engines. but the gears would probably be the best route to start with like robib said.

I agree lower rearend gears. Just be careful, don't go to low are you will comprimise your highway driving :fastcar:
There are all sorts of things you can do and I don't know how much more power you are looking far but it all goes back to how much you want to spend.
If you are looking for something cheap, sometimes a good tune up, plugs timing, carb rebuild and getting all the settings just right really make a difference.
Pricey side put a 2.3 turbo in it :hypno: , not that hard to to plus you really learn a lot, and bang for the buck it is the best. Everything you need to know how to do is on this site.
one thing you could do is replace the factory air cleaner with an aftermarket air cleaner from napa. another thing you could do is replace the restrictive exhaust with a glasspack muffler. I did it and I have noticed much better throttle response and a little more power. these parts cost under $100 and are easy to install.

here is my 2 cents first give it a good tune up cap wires all that Try synthetic oils they are proven to help .Also a msd ignition has never lost any power for me. In a car at my altitude a 100 lbs is worth a tenth in the Quarter mile I easily lost a couple hundred pounds out of the car by a good cleaning of the inside and undercarrage
My apologies for taking so long . I just want to say thanks to everybody that replied to my post . Thank you ! So little time and so much to do . I kind of forgot about this , and its only kind to say thank you .
