Title: Salvaging for my new 1971 Ford Pinto today
Post by: larjohnson on December 12, 2008, 07:50:28 PM
:tgif: Well.... got up this morning, kissed my Grandbaby goodbye (she stays with us during the day, while my daughter-in-law works), and I went salvaging at my salvage yard, for parts for the 71 Pinto I'm getting.  The ones I found in my gold mine salvage yard, didn't have anything I needed.  One had a rim (the Pinto I'm getting has Mustang 15 inch rims, I have found 3 Pinto 13 inch rims, missing 1) I thought would work, but it was rusted solid, couldn't get it off.  So... went to meet the wife for lunch, and afterwards, she went to work, and I went exploring.  Much to my surprise, 10 miles from my home, there's an old salvage yard, and it has 3 Pintos.  Was able to get to the one before dark, it's rims too were just too wide.  The other two are in an older part of the yard, will probably go there tomorrow and seek them out.  I do enjoy salvaging, but this 30 degree weather doesn't agree with me :hypno:.  Oh well, I'm lucky I have these two resources available to me.  I'm looking on ebay, don't have alot I need right now, and I've gots lots of time to restore this new baby.  Well, that's it, look forward to talking to Pinto.com members in the future.   You all have a Merry Christmas.  Larry

 :welcome:

Sounds like you had some fun, Larry! I wish I had more yards here in Idaho with Pintos, but right now there is only one left, and they charge so much it isn't worth the gas out there, even if it is down to $1.43/gal now!

If there is anything you are looking for which isn't '71 specific (most of it is, I think), let me know. I have a lot of stuff in storage that may be of use.

Ansen mags are sweet. I originally wanted them for mine, but I found the steel styled rims off the bobcat I've been parting at the salvage yard. If you happen to run across a set that you don't want, let me know!

Welcome Larry!!!

How lucky are you to have junk yards with Pinto's in them!! I can't find one Pinto in any of the junk yards around here! :(  Well, I did find one, but it was to good to part out, so I bought the whole car, now I still need to find one for parts!!!! LOL

I too have a 71 Pinto!!! Ok, I admit, I have 4 71 Pinto's!! LOL  One is actually for parts, but I still need more parts! Nice thing about this parts car is, my buddy wants it when I get all the stuff I want off of it!! He wants to make a racer out of it!! I'm putting all the stuff that is damaged from my other cars, back on this car, that way he can still have a whole car!!!  Sorry kinda got long winded!! LOL

Welcome to the site, and I would love to see a pic of your 71!!!

Kim
