Title: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: smallfryefarm on December 01, 2008, 09:22:32 AM
I got my cowl panels replaced this weekend and my heater box back in. Painted my engine bay 71 pinto red to match the out side now it is ready. The cowl panels took all day long, but so glad to have them fixed, they should last another 30 years now. Allready have new floor boards installed. Really just need carpet and the inside will be done. I have coil overs on the rear end but they are only 100lbs springs not heavy enough took them out waiting on some 200lb springs hope that is enough. hopefully have her ready to roll out early next year.

Got my 5 lug disc on the front of the 71 thanks to turbopinto72, it really is a easy swap and very afordable. Also got my locker installed, after today i am off till the second. Hope to drop the new fuel cell in tonight. Then start replacing all the brake lines. Soon be time for motor and trans.
Need to find a world class 5spd with the higher overdrive. I put a 4.62 gear in it which is lower than i wanted but i allready had it, going up to 28 inch tires to help out hoping with the higher overdrive i still can drive it to work.

I haven't got as far as i had hoped yet but i took the front back apart and replaced the controll arm bushings, that was fun. Got it back together and i am calling that part done. Put my 20 gallon Cell in, it worked out great. Put it thru the trunk 8" just to the bottom of the valance, it sticks up thru 4". Left just enough room in the spare tire well for the battery. Built some sub frame connectors that go from the front thru the ladder bar frame and weld around the cross bar. Should be very solid. Got the radiator installed should clear very well. I am leaving the front lower valance the grill and the panel between it and the bumper off till last to avoid scratches. My block came back from the machine shop it cleaned up nicely, hope to assemble it soon. Next plan is to seal and rust proof the new floor pans the add paint to the bottom and the wheel wells. Still need to find a 5 speed, around here its like finding chicken lips.

Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto

It is a ladder bar set up with coil over shocks. Works great, with the coil overs you can adjust the ride height and the spring weight very easy. If you want to see some pics of the set up i can take some for you.

I will try to get some pics this week end and post them Monday when i get back in here. The suspension was put in buy some one else before i got the car but i have pretty much redone it all to make it functionable. It really isn't that bad of deal the biggest part is welding all the stuff onto the rear end in the proper place and keeping it all even and level so the car sits level when your done.

I took a couple days off from working on the house and spent some time in the garage enjoying myself.
I have moved the heater box back so that i can move the fire wall back a little further i also widened the tunnel on both sides a couple inches. I know from looking at the pictures it looks like the tin man took a crap on it but its welded in good. I seam sealed it inside and out and thru some more paint on. Then i took my brand new oil pan and cut a groove from the back corner up to the sump staying about the middle of the side. I then massaged it open alittle and crushed it down on itself started with 5.5" and now it is 3.5" inside clearance which is all i can spare for crank clearance. I also cut the bottom of the sump and moved it forward about 1" now to call the tin man back to take another dump on it and soon will be ready to set it all in for fit. BIG thanks to 71pintoracer for his help and input on my project, great guy and much appreciated!!!!

I'll bet a lot of us never considered modifying our oil pan, being content with a one-size-fits...

Your dedication is showing! ;D

I'm guessing due to the cut back firewall that you are going to be dropping a large 8 cylinder motor into your Pony. Curious, what size? 302?
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: smallfryefarm on March 23, 2009, 08:28:51 AM
Yes i am putting a 302 in it. I have it put together, punched it out 30 put nice set of flat tops in it.
Trying the mother thumper roller cam from comp, topped of with a nice set of victor jr aluminum heads.
Suppose to be rite at 10.5 to 1 compression. Had to modify the trans tunnel for a 5spd. Cant wait to take the first ride in her. She will be my daily driver.

Ha! Thats funny!  I'll have to remember that one! Looking good with that shiny paint! Don't be too concerned though, once the engine is in there you can't see it. What kind of headers are you using? Mine are the kind that the front two tubes go forward and under the crossmember, the headers determined where the engine had to go.
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: smallfryefarm on March 24, 2009, 08:38:57 AM
I have a new set of the same, got off ebay ceramic coated, they look sweet but if need be they will have to go up for sale. I bought most everything ahead of time but as i progress i can see that some of it i wont be able to use, but i guess thats kinda the way it has to go.
After you got your engine in how much room did you have between the front pipes on the headers and the rack. Could you have got back another inch?
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: 71pintoracer on March 24, 2009, 04:42:41 PM
The front has plenty of room, it was the back tubes that had to squeeze between the crossmember and the firewall. The engine had to be sitting just right for them to fit properly. Also the valve cover is a little close to the firewall on the driver side so that may be an issue as far as how far back you can go. It's kinda hard to get a clear picture but I'll try to post some.  :P
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: smallfryefarm on March 25, 2009, 08:04:21 AM
THANK YOU so much your awesome. Here is a thought, if i can get the front down 1 inch and make the motor more level i am hoping to gain clearance at the valve covers. I hope to get a chance to drop it in for a look soon, so really dont have a clue till then. Just one of the MANY things going thru my little brain that keeps me from sleeping.

Dave:  You're progressing nicely.  My 1971 is coming along great.  I only have a few things left to do on the interior, and it'll be finished.  The paint isn't that bad, but I'm hoping to get it painted this summer.  Anyway, I'm working on the heater now, it wasn't hooked up when I got the car from Reed.  Anyway, got the baffles moving, ordered new control cables, which should be coming in the next week or so.  In no hurry, will assemble the heater, once I get the dash repainted.  I don't want to put the dash pad back on, until after I finish hooking up the heater, I can see and work so much better without it.  Anyway, hopefully the heater will be up and running well in about a week.  Your car is a beauty, and it's coming along nicely.  Hope to see it in person some day.   Have a great weekend.... Hey larry thanks for the kind words. Good to here from you. I took my heater box out and took it apart cleaned what looked like 30lbs of carpet pad out of the fan and cleaned trimed and greased the doors and put them back in. They really work good now. I have been watching your rebuild, it tickles me to see some one else enjoying them selves to. Stay at it, hopefully will see you around some day!!

Dave, took some pics but I can't find the stupid cable to load them!  >:( (I'll keep looking!) From what I can tell it looks like the left valve cover is the limiting factor on how far back you can go, not the headers.
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: 71pintoracer on March 29, 2009, 08:11:06 AM
OK, here are the pics. The headers seem to have enough room to move back, the valve cover and of course the oil pan are the limiting factors. Since I made my motor mounts I set the engine in and got my clearance at the oil pan. Also, at the valve cover, there is a big rubber grommet where the wiring harness comes through, I had to push the grommet back into the car and reseal it to get more clearance. Dropping down another inch will help with that issue but I'm not sure about the firewall.
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: 71pintoracer on March 29, 2009, 08:23:35 AM
Also ran into these issues: on the right side I had to trim out and re-weld the pass side of the frame for the header to pass through. The front tubes on the driver side are close and the back tubes on the pass side are close. I would have liked to have shifted the engine around more for clearance but the rag joint is in the way.

Thanks for the pics, they help like you wouldnt believe. I think i have diffrent headers my rear to pipes go out thru the wheel well. I am going to have my motor and trans sitting in the car on mounts before the weekend is over. I hope to have some exciting pics to post tomorrow.
I have another question on your headers where the rear to pipes slide in to the collector did you weld them? How did you seal them up?
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: 71pintoracer on March 29, 2009, 08:12:21 PM
My collectors are made on the back part of the header and the front two pipes slide into that. I used red high-temp silicone where they slide together. You can see it on one of the tubes in the second pic. On my 4 cyl two piece header there were tabs welded to the tubes and you bolted them there. I don't have a picture of that header but I did the same thing with the collector pipe on this 4 cyl header.

Well i put a old set of heads on and droped the motor in for the first time for mock up, and i cant thanks enough for the the help from 71pintoracer. It all fit in perfect i built the motor mounts and the trans mount got the headers on, they also fit very nice. I know what your thinking and no i didnt cut the wheel wells out with a shovel. I will tidy up the holes after the motor comes out. What a week end finally got to see it come together!!! happy happy happy.  :amazed: ;D
very glad to see that i can get the carb and intake and aircleaner under the hood.

My boy has always been into cars its fun to work with him. I will post a picture of his ride. He won the points championship with this one.  :2fast4u:

We did the paint, chassis, all the set up and built the engine all ourselves in our garage. I have to say
i might be prejudice but he is a wheel man.

Finally got my house done, Now time to get on the pinto. I pulled the motor and trans out last night.
Thands to the help from 71pintoracer i only have to pull it out one time, it all fit great. I hope to get the engine bay painted again for the third time. Then back in it goes. Maybe by the week end i will have some pics of the progress.

Worked all day saturday in the shop, got a lot done but not as much as planned. Seems that is becomeing a trend. Maybe lower my expectations next time. I got my aluminum heads, intake and carb sat. Got them installed, also got my cam dialed in. That took a while. My son got my oil pan all welded up it turned out great. Im thinking its going to be a lot of pinto muscle.

Here is the up date on pimp my pinto over the weekend. Cody my boy spent the day sat with me in the garage
so we built the seat brackets which was a tough job. Then we installed the new carpet. Then we took some rubber roof material and sealed between the trunk and the back seat. Then we put the seats in. They look great, they are red and black but the camera doesnt show the color. Then we pulled out the rear end and made some gussets for the rear of the ladder bar brackets. Cody welded them in for me. Unlike me he can lay down some purty welds. Now i feel like i can thrash on it like i borrowed it. The interior is completley painted with a new dash pad. But that 71 stearing wheel is going to need some attention

Hi,i dont suppose i could see a more detailed pic of how you connected the frame connectors to the rear of the frame.Id just like to see how its done,im doing mine but need to know how it looks around the torque box area,thanks.....Mark
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: smallfryefarm on April 29, 2009, 08:38:58 AM
I can do that, but i have a ladder bar suspension so mine is different i ran my frame connectors back and hooked them into the cross support for my ladder bars which have supports going over to each side and back. First i would suggest that you go to my project and look at 71pintoracers post weld in sub frame connectors.
That should be more of what you need. But if you want pics of mine let me know and i will get them for you.

Well i woke up early sat and thought their was a slim chance i might hear it run, had a lot to do but it was doable if everything went well. Guess what it fell apart early. I pulled out my cam card to check if i had a 302 or 351 firing order and noticed that i had looked at the wrong numbers when i dailed in my cam so the front of the motor came back off and redialed in the cam. Got some more stuff done but didnt get started. Mom always told me if your dumb you gotta be tough. So i sucked it up and kept working. On a side note i scored a neat birthday present from my kids check this out. This will style out the back seat of the pinto. One more i will have a matching set for both grandbabys. Im thinking will be a nice conversation starter at the track also.

Sure did, don't have a pic right now but I can get one if you need it. I cut mine all the way across but I think you only need a little out of each side. Your radiator looks just like mine. Did you get it fired yet? I know you were close.
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto

Thanks i figured you had to cut it. No i havnt fired her yet but its so close its not funny. Havnt had time latley to put in her. My 6.0 deisel went down. EGR cooler and oil cooler i ordered a bypass kit to bypass the egr which consist of a new intake and up tube for the turbo. I tore into it with all the confidence in the world then 3 hours later i was looking under the hood scared to death saying to my self what the crap have you done to your truck. honestly i think i cried ok i cried. But i finished it up i also took my turbo apart and polished it up on the inside. She runs like scalded dog now though. And with the bypass it wont happen again.
Its time now to put hay up  >:( so soon as im done with that im hoping to get her running.

I hear ya on the EGR cooler, but here at the dealership we can't install bypass kits, we just replace the bad parts with the same parts that puked in the first place!!  :P But at least you can work on the 6.0, on the new 6.4, step 1; remove the cab, step 2, fix whats broke!  :hypno:

Went to a junk yard i have never been before to get some pulleys. This place is off the map, i mean it is out past the buger woods. The road kept getting smaller, i left the gravel road miles back. I passed a house or something people were living in. Their was a boy sitting on the porch with what looked like maybe 2 teeth sticking out. If he had been playing a banjo, well it was purty scary and for a redneck to get worried it had to be bad. Thought i was going to have to lock the truck in but that was last resort didn't want to get out. Finally got their and scored some pulleys that look like they will work. Look what else i found while i was their.

Hey there, looks great! I havent been regurly on the forums lately for the last couple of years so i missed your starting it.

Have to say im jealous that you get to keep your hood! I tried 4 different ways to keep the stock hood but alas i couldnt. I lowered the rack 2.5" but it because i am a hard butt I wanted to keep my air gap Manifold. That just pushed it back up to what i had before LOL. I could have gone with a low profile manifold but that just wouldnt do on a Hot Rod engine!
So I had to spend spend for a glass hood with a cowl. Oh well i think it looks great, but still wanted the stock flat hood.

Glad you are progressing. Ive been at it for 6 years and still havent drove it. Its 99.3% drivable. I just need to fill her up with tranny fluid so it will go into gear. I tried that about 3 months ago. Apartment neighbors rose hell because its so loud and thus i got my hand slapped for "working" on my car. So i cant fill the tranny without running the engine, but i cant run the engine so i cant fill the tranny..... SIGH. Now i have to "drag"it out to the street to do this.

SORRY! I tend to ramble. I do that.

Great Color BTW! Cant wait to see it run.

Well i have made several sets of pulleys none of which i am satisfied with, so i called and ordered some from ford motorsports last week they should be in hopefully today. I put my rear end back in sat. Also got my quartermaster alum drive shaft in, perfect fit. I was worried about the length.
My son is making me a new shifter that will bring it back 2 inches. The best part the knob is a piston out of a motor cycle. It is going to be sweeet. I will post a pic of it when he is done.

I gotta get internet at home i am missing the pool partys.  :'( Sounds like you guys are having WAY to much fun.

Such a discouraging week :( Still having fuel pressure problems. Put a second new regulator on better but not rite. Took the new fuel pump apart. Cleaned the pop off valve cleaned it real good put it back together really couldnt find any thing wrong. It is holding 3 lbs cant change it now sometimes it goes up to 6 guess it will have to get another pump. Also found that the new red top optima battery that came with the car is bad, never been used but sit in the trunk probably for a couple years. Stopped this morning bought a new one. When i got to work my new pulleys from ford motorsports had arrived, tried to post pics but they wont load for some reason. This thing is gonna fire this week if i have to blow gas in it with my mouth. Never had anything whip my a$$ like this thing has this week, every time i turn around. Maybe i will feel better when i hear it, surely it cant keep going bad. I may have to fly down and pick up 71pr and bring him up for a couple days. Need to put a smiley face that has a help sign on it or one with a white flag.  maybe a smiley face holding a sign that says i am going nuckin futz

Hang in there David, you're so close! Those little bugs that pop up sure are annoying though. Are you using a Holley pump? I had nothing but trouble with them on my dirt car. Chucked it and the regulator and put a carter pump on that didn't need a regulator and never had another problem. Got it from Summit and it was way cheaper than the Holley.
I'd love to be there to help and hear it when it fires!! In fact, I feel like a road trip in the Pinto is just what the doctor ordered! See ya in a few hours!!  :fastcar:

Hey dont be to discouraged Hell your way beyond where i was in your time frame!! Remember I fired my car last year and that was 5 years after i started!!
So about the fuel pump. Is it electric or mechanical? If its electrical you might not be getting all the amps to the fuel pump that it needs to supply the pressure its designed to deliver. Maybe re-evaluate your wiring job? Just a thought!
Also have you ruled out the gage? Never know it might be a faulty gauger verses a bad fuel pump and a bad regulator.

Yes when your doing a V8 Pinto install things can get real frustrating. I know from experience. A general rule is "it will take 3 times longer than you estimated, and cost 2 times as much as you budgeted for" In my case it took 5 times longer and cost 3 times as much LOL!
I cant remember how many times Ive been asked "So how long will this take?" and Ive said " 6 months tops! " I stopped saying that i knew how long it would take after i think 4 years or so.

Ive got over 6000 in my car just since i started and i cant see where i put it! (and still no paint) Plus i think Ive got another 300 in upgrades I'm planning to do very soon. (not to mention now i have to get a new valence and a new L fender  :() It goes so fast!

So Chin up! Set goals, but dont be overtaken by them! Persevere and you will emerge VICTORIOUS!!

Have not been able to work on her for a few days. Its hay season. Did get a few issues worked out. Ford Motorsports sent me a new water pump to try with the pulleys they sent. They will work perfect together. The other short water pump is motorcraft. Part # M-8501-E351 It didnt work with thier pulleys so i will post this pump in classifieds. I did get a lot of the knew brake lines installed. Wont be long, soon as hay is over.

I changed the water pump put on the pulleys and they lined up perfect. What a relief. i made the alternater bracket and got it on their. Got all my brake lines run. I put my proporting valve in side so i can reach it while i drive to adjust to the road conditions. I need to get some meats fitted to the front end and i could probably sit her down and take a little test ride.   8) any way it wont be long. the next time you see the motor it will have all the blue and red wire looms on and lookin good. But here is pixs of the pulleys and progress.

Finally things are becomeing complete. Under the hood is done except i need a flex fan. Every thing in the trunk is complete. Under the car i need to put the exhaust on and move the rear back 1/2 inch then it is done. inside the car i need to install the headliner but it will come later. I dressed her up last night for the forth of july check out the wire looms.

when i open up the hood i am just going to look suprised and say how did that get in their.

Hmmm loookinnng gooood!

Hey what are you going to run for an air cleaner? I tried for months and 6 different ideas and nothing would fit under my stock hood. Problem for me was the edelbrock Air Gap was taller than i could compensate for. I said the heck with it and got my cowl hood. Now my 13" ford motorsport air cleaner has a 4 in element and it barely fits! But it does.

I am not sure what brand it is but it is low profile triangle shaped air cleaner. I am going to get the double chrome tube kit from summitt later when i get every thing else done. i wanted to keep it under the hood but i am very jealus of your hood i would definatly go for that.

Yah unless hes got some "super turbo quiet muffs" then its game over LOL! Stay away from Flowmasters at all costs!! They just cant be mistaken for a sleeper of any kind!

I,on the other hand, Loove the flowmaster sound. Just cant help it.

I had to give up the sleeper look myself when i realized that the Milodon pan was a dead giveaway. Then the Flowmasters 40 series, then the "big" wide centerlines, then the final nail in the sleeper coffin was the cowl hood.

Cant wait to see a vid of it motoring down!
Just take it easy for a few hundred and dont forget to change oils etc etc before you start nailing it hard...
GL!!

mine will be a sleeper, but yes the Exhaust sound has to meet my standards. so 2 1/2 in piping with 60 series flowmasters should be nice. I might even go Borla but i really dont like the sound of them too much. smallfyre, and 71 both those cars are Just sweet. sleeper or not i like them both

Hey thanks man, I appreciate it. Im sure Small does as well!
Can you fit the 60 series under the car? They are big. Ment for SUV's really.
Flowmaster also makes one i wanted and thats the "Hushpower". Killer sound, very mellow compared to flowmasters, but waaay expensive. Near 150 a muffler. Sheesh!

MAN Small, i wish we were near each other to hit up BOB's BIG BOY in my neighborhood! Woould be siiicckk! LOL . Dam to have a 4 or more pinto showing there would shut up all the car snobs!

Gotta local shop that knows what i want and hes willing to do the whole thing High flow cats and all for 400. All i have to do is find Headers for a 3.8 ... Should be fun and expensive im sure.

And once the trigger is pulled the sleeper affect is out the window anyway. Man a cruise in would be to awesome i would love to have a chance to go over each others cars and bench race.  :drunk: I do plan to sneak in on 71pintoracer and shake his hand for all his help. Started working early this morning with the intentions of leaving some seriously awfull black marks if front of the house. I installed the shifter my boy made, 2" rearward and topped with a polished piston purty sweet. From here on every thing i touched turned to crap  :'( I installed my clutch cable and started moving thru the gears on the jack stands. they all work good but except 5th, wont go in its like theirs not enough throw, it just goes close enough to grind when i let the clutch out. Drove 5 hours to toledo to buy this p.o.s. fresh rebuild. so i have to take it out and check it out. 71pintoracer any ideas? i then started putting in my new trick head lights with the blue bulbs and the small blue running light in them the looks sweet well untill i dropped the first one and busted it all to crap  :'( , so disapointed. its so close it looks so sweet. oh well i have waited this long i can wait a little longer. at least the motor is broke in i run it every day. I guess if it was easy every one would do it..  i am taking off for a week. when i get back i have to figure this out. I have been on the edge of a cussing fit all day but no one here to hear it so i am just going to call it a day.  :(

went to electronic supply told him i needed some very small momentary switches, he ask me what i was working on. i told him a 71 pinto, he got all excited told me he had a 71 comet. he went back and found some switches the perfect size. charged me 99 cents. some time having a pinto has its privilages. installed them in my shifter knob for my two step and my line lock. They turned out great. look even better in the car but havent got pic of it in car yet. im still working on it when i can. But like allen jackson say it just takes money. i juat cant find any.

I know its been forever seems like every time i turn around more to do and more money to spend. Got my front tires, gambled on the size but they fit perfect. the front and back ride heights are better than i even hoped for. Soooo glad to set it down. Picked up my fan this morning have to install it and get some one to help me bleed the brakes and the catsass is taking me a ride. then she gets a bath. the wife told me last night i look like jackass eating saw briars.  ;D ;D ;D  happy happy happy

How sweet it is. I started her up last night and opened the garage doors and out we came. Still open headers so she was sounden good. by the time i got down to the road the neighbers were out of the house and down by the road, gave me a hand clap as i went by they have heard me working on it for a year but never seen it before. I tell you i felt like i won the daytona 500 as i went by. Took her couple miles up the road to shake her down. Coming back i was cruzing in 3rd gear decided to flip the switch one time and O MY GOSH she is stupid.. I seen carl edwards on tv saying he was faster than a greased cheeta strapped to a bullit train, im faster than a greased cheeta straped to a v8 pinto. The ladder bar suspension is sweet when i mashed her down a little the whole car lifts back as well as fron and feels like all the weight is on the rear tires i might need a rudder on her.   Only real issue i found is i have to pull the trans and fix 5th gear. Other than that she feels solid. Just want to say thank you so much for all the help on this, it has been very much appreciated.   :fastcar: :2fast4u:

Well i have drove her off and on she is sweet. But now she is back on the stands had to take off the carb to put on my brothers mustang to get it out of my garage. So i have to get her another carb and going to pull out the trans and find out why shes not shifting into 5th gear. Have a few little issues to address but she acts very well on the road and is very solid and very happy to scare the crap out of you at a moments notice. SO MUCH FUN.

Nice, what size? and why did you have to you buy a new one? Should run great with it. Mine i think is undersize for how the engine is built. It has a lean surge at light/part throttle contstant speed cruising.
Title: Re: Finally got a couple days to work on my pinto
Post by: smallfryefarm on September 24, 2009, 07:42:28 AM
Its a 770 vac sec. I wanted another 750 but this was the best buy. I built a motor for my brothers mustang and it needed a carb. i needed it out of my garage so i stole the one off of the pinto and got it out.
Best way to figure cfm is cubic inch x rpm divided by 3456. Mine 306x6500/3456=575.52 I could have done fine with a 600cfm or 670cfm but i have had extensive head work and intake work so i decided to go with 770. I know its not good to go to big but it has easy adjustable vac secondary so it should work fine.
This is from holley and with the vac sec and the new metering block your car would like it. especially and light part throttle and cruise. It also has lifetime garantee against powervalve failure.

Took out he 5spd and took it apart, my first time inside one. Did you know their is like a zillion parts in one of these things. First gear was burred up purty bad so took it out and deburred it and smoothed the ramps. The slider that goes between 3rd and 4th was burred up on the inside on both sides didnt like sliding so i smoothed them out and smoothed the ramps. All the sychronizers are new. I replaced the 5th gear shifter and put it all back together. On the stands it goes thru all gears great and for the first time it goes into 5th gear thank goodness. Now if it will just quit raining i will give her a test drive. And if it wont work then i will have a new boat anchor. Hey 71hotrodpinto i put the shiney carb on her today i will put a pic on monday at work. Looks purty sweet sitten on their.

David:  Wish I were a good enough mechanic to take a 5 speed apart and repair it. I'm lucky to change a flat tire.  I'm looking forward to Carlisle in 2011, I hope to see a lot of these cars I'm hearing so much about.  Have a great Sunday....Larry :police:

OK David, it stopped raining so get out there and bang some gears! :fastcar:
Funny story for ya, my son Jesse has a new friend who is into Honda's and such, he's telling him about my Pinto and the boy is like yea yea, whatever, Pinto, yea. So Jesse calls me at work and says you driving the Pinto and I say yea, why. His new friend is at the house and wants to see it and go for a ride. I get home (11:30 pm, worn out) and they meet me in the garage wanting to go for that ride. So I say OK hop in, I'll take you all for a short ride. The guys girlfriend is with him and wants to go. I asked her if she had to go to the bathroom, she kinda looks at me all funny and I tell her I don't want her to pee her pants. They all laugh a little and get in and get buckled up. Up the road we go and I'm just cruisin along nice and easy and ask what do you think, the kid says yea, typical Ford, slow and smooth. Jesse is saying no dad, get on it, show them what it'll do!! We turn around and head back, there's this real long straight stretch, (I live in the boonies remember) so I say I'm just going to roll off in second gear from about 25-30. OK evryone's ready, hold on, nail it in second and the locker gets it a little sideways, shift light flashes, bam! third gear, shift light, bam! fourth gear through the 1/4 mile and the glass packs are freakin' bellowing!!  :fastcar: I shift into 5th and let it slow down, nobody's saying anything, turn around at the top of the hill and Jesse's friend says OMG!! O.....M......G!! I am shaking, my hands and my body are literaly shaking! That was awesome!! That is unbelievable!!  We pull into the garage and climb out, his g/f says, I think I pee'd my pants!!

i took her thru the gears and she works great all gears and even 5th. I am so relieved that it works.
larry you could do it if i can anyone can.

I have built and installed my 3 inch exhaust with flow masters. Its sounds good but i think driving with the open headers has me spoiled alittle bit ;D. The next major task is installing the new head liner. I still need window gaskets for the two side windows. Does any one know if these are available new? I also still need to find some new front seat belts.

Just a normal day checking my fordpinto.com and clicked on the unread link to find I've missed 6 pages of this build until today. The car looks and sounds awesome, great attention to details. I'm jealous and missing that v-8 rumble at the same time.

ordered me some new front seat belts for the pinto today, now just have to see if the window guys think they can get my side windows out without destroying my seals so i can put in the headliner. I bought this car last nov and thought man i will be done and driving by end of january. Oh my how wrong i was. but with the extra time spent its really turning out good. if any one gets one and wants to jump in and do a restore or v8 swap plan on taking at least 5 times longer and costing 5 times as much. so you wont get discouraged,  ;D

im having some brake problems. i dont think im getting enough pressure to the front discs. the back brakes are doing the majority of the stoping, i have a proportining valve in the front and have tried it in and out no difference feels like i have a good pedal but before i get it all the way in the back brakes are taking over. maybe the valve is junk, bought it used. used a power bleeder on the brakes, purty sure im good thier. dont know yet will get back on it later.

Hey there, the valve goes on the REAR brakes. That will be some of your problem. Also ,make sure your headers arent heating up the brake fluid and boiling it. That will put Air in the system..
talk later running late.

I am having brake issues and maybe you could help...
I keep poising fluid but I don't see any hoses leaking and
the wheel cylinders don't seem to be leaking,,, the only
slightly most place seems to be under the master, is this
a common issue? At this point I am assuming a cracked
master cylinder, any advise would be great!

If you havnt replaced the brake lines yet. then start at the master cylinder and follow the lines they are bad to rust out and you may have a small leak under the car that will blow out on you. if now leaks in the lines or wheel cylinder then check the master cylinder it could even be leaking back into the car.
